I'm staying in the Rio Grande Valley with my Golden Retriever, Sam. It will be our first winter and I have some concerns. After the Hurricane in July and some flooding this month, I'm worried that maybe I should store my trailer somewhere farther inland or to the va north. Does anyone know of a good storage place in central or west Texas? Or maybe my worries are unfounded?

Hurricane season is officially from 1 June to 30 November.
NOAA’s 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook update indicates an 85% probability of an above-normal hurricane season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season, and a 5% chance of a below-normal season.
Expect considerable activity during the remainder of the 2008 season, with an additional 9-12 named storms, 5-8 hurricanes and 2-5 major hurricanes likely during the remainder of the season (August 27th through November 30th).
So how lucky are you?

Thousands are stored there every Winter with minimal problems. The biggest worry would be flooding from excess rain. Make sure it is stored on high ground & make sure you have insurance coverage.

The insurance is something you should check. Mine covers just about everything as long as I am living in it or it is parked at my northern home. If I leave it will have to get insurance down there as it would be considered a permanant home even though it is a travel trailer. My local agent was surprised at that but made certain I was informed. I believe Foremost is the only company that does insure house trailer and that is what mine would be classified as. Make sure that some sort of flood insurance is included if you want to be fully covered. Pawatt probably knows more.
