Lady and I eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies, are they readily available in the winter at the local markets in RGV ? I know citris is available but less than one a day is almost too much, so I am interested in others. Bobby

From our experience being in the valley the produce at the produce markets is very good and inexpensive. We get lots of fruit and veggies.

C C its my understanding that RGV is the wintertime playground to thaw out whatever ails an old geezer, thats me, Rio Grande Valley, of South TEXAS where northerners become Winter TEXANS who are mellowed out and say HOWDY to all they meet. Looking forward to my first trip south of San Antonio and all the smiling folks from everywhere. Bobby

The fresh fruit & produce is the best, cheapest & most plentiful we have seen anywhere. Best places we have found are the Mexican flea market on Conway. Saturday & Sunday & the big produce market on business 83 across from the Don-Wes Flea Market open daily. It can also be found at many roadside stands & most flea markets. Also free citrus fruit in many of the rv parks.

RGV is the Rio Grande Valley in deep south Texas along the Rio Grande River & the Mexico border. Much of the USA's Citrus & produce comes from this area.

Something to think about with regards to Mexican produce - when we travel in Mexico we are advised to wash/soak all produce in a disinfectant solution e.g. bleach (bottles of drops to add to water can be also be purchased in the grocery stores). When we are in the Valley, we do not do this and yet we don't get sick using Mexican grown veggies.
What's the difference. Even buying Mexican produce in our Canadian grocery stores we just wash and use yet it could come from the same source in Mexico where we are advised to take extra precautions. How come ? ? ?

You do know it freezes in the winter in the RGV??? If you have to scrape frost off the windshield in the morning you gotta know the "fresh" produce has been trucked in from Mexico.

Like Treipalot says... wash it and enjoy....

Because they use pesticides in Mexico that are banned in the U.S. And most produce from Mexico is not inspected in accordance with U.S. standards.
