We are Canadian snowbirds and spend our winters in Florida. Our park has an "incentive" if we leave our 5th Wheel (tie-down and skirt) we would get an excellent rate for 3 years.
I'm really very interested in this what with the price of gas etc. hauling the 5th wheel for 3 days south has lost it's appeal
We really like the park (4 years) and we do not use the 5th wheel in the summer in Canada.
Hubby is "convinced" that there is some "law" which would prohibit us from leaving a Canadian purchased 5th wheel in the U.S. and making it into a "permanent".
I know that getting insurance is probably impossible, but with the price of insurance in the U.S. most folks in our park are not insured anyway!!
Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Don't know about US law but I do know that the reverse is true! A trailer (or boat) left in Ontario past the middle of October is deemed to have been imported and all kinds of taxes plus duties become due.
Of course, someone in authority has to realize the unit has not been returned "home" for any of this to happen.
Don't know how they'd do that if the licence plate had been removed "for safekeeping"

As a U.S. resident I'm considering doing the same thing. As for license tags, I would not need to renew them if the unit was not being towed on a highway. As an Indiana resident, I would be obligated to pay personal property tax on the rv regardless of where the unit is located.

an interesting suggestion, just remove the license tag.
but if you are just going to leave it, why not sell it and buy a TT instead?

I don't think I'd leave it in Florida during hurricane season.

I know of at least a dozen Canadians that leave their 5vers tied down on their lots year round in our park.

I am sure someone will confirm, I think that Florida tags are necessary to leave a RV pernamently in a park.
To the OP, try Progressive, they were insuring trailers for Canadians last spring.

FYI, a lot more people travel each year without RVs than with them.  Most of those folks I referred to in my earlier post, also bought a car in FL and leave it on site as well. They, then, fly back and forth between CN and FL.

Did this in Arizona last year. Ontario trailer plates are for the life of the trailer unless you sell it. The tow vehicle insurance covers trailer liability on the highway.
Off the truck you need a separate policy. We canceled the Canadian policy and insured it as a "Park Model" in Az. Cost about $350.00 for the year if I remember correctly. It's tied down on the lot not moving so unless we change RV parks we won't worry about insurance on the road.
