I know that tires will "dry rot" after seven years, what about air bags? Should they be replaced after a time? If so who sells just the replacement bags.

Generally, it's costs less to buy the whole air bag kit than to just buy two replacement air bags.

I thought tire 'dry rot' was largely due to sun exposure. Air bags up under the frame should not receive direct sunlight.

trvsdad1 I have had my Airlift bag for 8 years with no problems. I would presume if they were to go bad I could order new bags.
Example of air bags for sale.
Just search the net for them....I've seen 2 bags for $100.00

Geez if you have to replace them every three years Super Springs would be the way to go. I would think if you wash them once in a while to get the abrasive dirt off they should go 7 to 10 years.

Mine are eight years old also, and work & look fine I just thought maybe they had a shelf life of sorts. I'll leave them till they rupture, I can make it home without them. They simply raise the rear end so my head lights don't blind on coming traffic and levels truck while camper is on board. The camper is stored off the truck, so their deflated down to five lbs. most of the time. DRY ROT would be from the intense heat and dry air where I live, PHOENIX, AZ.

Air bags are subject to rot from ozone and abrasion from sand and gravel. They will also lose plasticizers over time. No point in worrying about it until they fail, as they will probably just start leaking slowly rather than blowing out.

You may want to research this a little deeper.

Besides the tc I have an 83 Tioga. Put airbags on it 20 years ago and they're still holding air. No noticeable rubber rot either.
