This ?? is sorta OT (off-topic). We do all our banking online, but at this time we have cable internet at home. We have Verizon service and we are thinking about getting the VZ AirCard for our laptop this fall. How satisfied are you with their service? How fast is the connection? My DH likes to listen/watch his favorite college team games on the internet. Would this still be possible with the AirCard? ... thanks in advance.
Sorry for hijacking this topic.

When we 1st when full timing we called all our monthly committments and had their monthly payment to our VISA ie cell phone, telephone, heating, Internet. This was easiier, as they took our number over the phone, than sending out cheques for auto payments to our Bank accounts. We then had the VISA debit our bank account for the balance in full monthly. Great system You can pull up your VISA statement on line see all the charges. You can check the statement after the cut off and see the balance owing so you only have one charge to your account which occours 21 days after cut off. We used 1 VISA for all entries, and another for our purchases. Not a big deal to use one but just the way we did it. The only snag is when VISA issues a new card you have to call in with the new expiry date.
Make sure your on line banking uses 128 bit encryption, and you use your laptop, Using public computors can be a bit riskier as you need to clear the cache when you sign off, most of the libraries do this automatically.

You should be fine anywhere if your bank's security is decent.
Between the browser and the bank, it sets up 128bit or more encryption. That way what you send to your bank is encrypted at your browser passed through the wifi at the truck stop and decoded at your banks website.
Consider at your home the countless miles and multiple "hops" it goes through. It may even pass those truck stops along the highway ) They go through universities etc.
The thing you want to watch out for is unsecured stuff. For instance, what I am typing here could be recorded on a packet sniffing program. This is not secure, but no big deal, it's a public forum.
With your bank again, it's encrypted, so what you type is scrambled until it hits your bank.

Be careful what you do on cell or cordless phones as they can be monitored as well.

I may be overly paranoid (and also a computer professional) about this but using a public, unsecured wifi for a banking transaction is committing financial suicide. People who steal identities hang out at these places just waiting for you to sign on to your bank and other places. This is how a lot of people get their identities compromised.
The rule is never, under any circumstances, use a public, unsecured wifi for anything but casual internet surfing. Check the weather, the news and facebook, but nothing more than that. Also, do not use ANY publicly-available computer. Every high school kid knows how to place a "key logger" program onto the town library's PCs. These programs record everything done on the machine, for later examination.
Of course, you may get by for years unscathed. Just because anyone COULD hear you, it doesn't mean that anyone IS actually listening. But, holy mackeral, if you do get bitten... YIKES!

We use a debit/credit card for all purchases and cash withdrawals. Card is provided by my Brokerage's bank and any checking transactions are also included in the on line statement and monthly summaries. It also has a bill pay feature that handles all transactions automatically except those we designate to be reviewed first. Even automatic transactions are set up to notify me via e mail before and after they are paid so I can stop if necessary. We only have one other credit card and use it at Costco exclusively for rebate and convenience.
I do use an Air card for both at home and on the road internet connections. The USB connector provided by most cel phone providers cost about $60.00 per month for unlimited usage so much more efficient than having two connection systems. The only complaint
About the Air card would be that it can be slow at times and is very slow for downloading large files like videos and pictures.

I bank with USAA who has developed a 'deposit at home' system where it allows me to scan the front and back sides of a check I may have received in the mail...the check is electronically deposited instantly minimizing my need to visit a branch or mail the check in and waiting for days for it to post. Everything is done online, debit card works great...no need to really have a ' brick and mortar' style facility...the internet is great!

I have used Online Banking for a few yr. now, I do not have anything on auto pay except for Elec. bill, they do not have a set up to pay directly or to view bill online,yet..small EMC.. All others have sites to where you can set up your account and when U view your monthly statement U can pay the bill if it is correct... I suggest that U always check CC bills for accuracy before paying. With all that said I would be lost without my wireless card, I use Sprint Novatel, sometime it is kinda slow but has always worked, some places it is lightening fast, just depends on your location. If we need cash, we got to ATM(no charges) or Wally's when we buy drugs, groc. etc. And yes drugs can be a little pain sometimes, we have Walmart as our pharmacy and they have online refills, just press the button and then tell them where U want to pick them up, just keep prescriptions up to date...Nothing much U can't do online, except maybe polish the RV...

I opened a account at Bank of America they have the widest nationwide network and if you need to cash a check or visit a ATM you can usually find a branch bank it has proven to be very convienient . I also have most of my bills on automatic payment and have on line banking and use a verizon wirless card. $59.99/month allows up to 5gigs of air time.

I do however do a lot of buying on the internet and the WF card is the one that I use most.
I have a Visa card from Bank of America. They offer a free service called ShopSafe which I assume other banks and cards also offer.
With the service you can generate a new card number for each purchase. The number can only be used once (unless you allow more uses) and only for the amount you specify. It will also expire at a preset date.
I use this service for all of my internet and phone credit card purchases.
You might want to see if it or something like it is available from your credit card and or bank.
