I hope this is the right forum:

I'm trying to find dimmer bulbs to fit in the sconces at the front of
my 2008 Fun Finder X-160. The bulb that's in there now is the double contact thing, #1076. The box I have says "1076 12v 32CP". I have no idea how many watts that is, if they're even measured that way.

Is there something dimmer than that, but brighter than an LED? I'd like something to use to read at night without blinding my better half...

Thanks for your help

Regards,
Michelle

Here's a chart will just about any miniature bulb listing
Scroll down to find your bulb's specs and then look for the same specs with a lower amp or CP (candle power) rating.

I had the same problem with the same bulb...........I had some extra diodes laying around and wired 2 inline with positive side of the bulb.......each diode reduced the voltage by about 7/10 of a volt.......so 2 resulted in about a 1.4 volt drop......just enough to take the glare off.......bulbs will last longer too!

From memory- an 1142 is 21cp (same base), and a 1004 is ~15cp (same base).

If the dimmer bulb approach does not work for you, consider installing a 12v dimmer switch on the lamp in question. The 12v dimmer is a tad pricey but does work very well.

You need a good bulb catalog.. I recall the good old days when we had Lafayette and Allied and Olson electronics, All 3 had good bulb listings.

Let me check and see if I have a bulb listing here (I do but it does not list a 1076)

Candidates are 1034 and alas that is the only dual contact 12 volt bulb I have listed (I think it's a lot like the one you have now)

You can also get LED lamp assemblies from places that specialize in LED lighting. They can make 'em with 10, 20, 40, 80 leds, the more leds the more light. (NOTE: other quanities are made as well, the numbers above are examples)

I'm thinking of making my own 50 led arrays for some lamps one of these days

I just grabbed them off the shelf- they are 1142 and 1004. The base is called "candelabra", double contacts, non-indexing (can be put in either way).

King Controls (King Dome TV Satellite people) make great 12v dimmer controls.

I have put them in all my dining area and bedroom area light fixtures. They are sensitive to clean power and raw power will make them flicker, if you have a cheap converter.

Easy to insstall and you have control over brightness whenever needed.

IN fact, a 12 volt lamp dimmer is nothing more than a rehostat, An old heater fan speed control (I DID SAY OLD) is also a rehostat, I don't know if it has enough resistance to do the job but.. It might.

you can also get dash-lamp dimmers such as the one used on the Chevy Lumina APV in 1992, it's also a rehostat

John-the new 12 volt dimmers are PWM circuits.
