Since we make the couch up every morning for our 9 year old we're thinking of going to a fifth wheel and have the kids sleep on the sofa and the dinette. Something like a 29 RLS plan.

For those who have done it.

Pain in the butt or not ?

We max out @ about 30 nights a year.

Thanks

We got bunks on our previous Trailer and never used them. Our son never went camping with us and it was too difficult to care for our disabled daughter if she was in the bunk so she styed on the dinette.
We didn't mind putting the dinette up and down when needed.
Our current TT has no bunks and our daughter still uses the dinette and we just use the sofa with a hi-lo tabke for dinning

Our last TT had no bunks and the 2 daughters ( 9 & 14 ) stayed on the dinette and the couch with no problems. When we just purchased our new 5er, we did not even look too long at the bunk models, you get soo much more living area with out them. The kids stay on the fold out and on a single blow up mattress that takes minutes to blow up and take down... Although we don't like the loss of primary space from the bunk house, our son, 11, appreciates having his own room and a bed for a friend. It also gives the kids a place for all their stuff.

The grand-kids like having their area and the rainy day benefit is huge

We had travel trailers for ten years with the kids-no bunks. Only one is left at home now but when we got the fiver last year, I wanted bunks. Something about not having to make a bed every nite and put it up every morning. The curently unused top bunk makes excellent storage for the guitars or fishing poles. I prefer bunks personally.

Bunks are a must for us, we also take along the niece and newphew. Folding the couch out on letting down the dinette was a pain every night, thats if we wanted to hang out on the couch and watch tv. Our Forest River Flagstaff 8528DS has a bunk slide also and it somewhat like an extra bedroom because you can close it off with the privacy curtain. The kids can hang out in the back and watch there tv. We love the bunk style.

We also prefer bunks because: 1) The kids have a separate playroom. 2) Adults can have evening quiet time in the living area. 3) No beds to move every day. 4) Our large dogs can use the extra floor space. 5) Some of our young children will actually sleep in a little behind the closed door. 6) If we have guests we can then use the couch and dinette. 7) We find more child usable storage space in the bunkroom versus units without it.

We have owned 5ver with bunks and our current is without. We made the decision knowing we would have to store away the bedding stuff every day. From my experience, here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
- More interior room for everyone (BIG pro)
- Lots of flexibility in moving or changing sofabeds, dinette's, etc. to fit changing needs
- It is easier for me to tuck the kids in and read and give back massages, etc. The bunks made this difficult.

Cons:
- Young kids stay up later if the parents are doing things in the common area
- If you don't pick the right layout, the fold-out bed could block the entry way or other area (HINT: research this carefully so you do not have to crawl over sleeping kids for the next five years...). - (BIG con)

Good luck. The next 5ver I purchase, I will open the sofabed and walkthru every inch to ensure paths, drawers, doors, etc. are not blocked. If I had it to again, I would still want the 5ver without bunks.

I guess I better not rule out the bunk plans then. We do not spend very much time in our current trailer even when it rains.
Once the kids are tucked in we're usually back @ the fire.

We never have others in to play cards etc as we do that outside.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Keep em comin.
