Proper license and rabies TAGS for dogs, issued by home state, are all that is required---or "demandable" in the states.

In the 50 states, other than carrying the home-state issued vehicle "registration document" and proof of insurance, and having required tags/stickers displayed/carried as required, the carrying and/or "showing" of titles, MSOs, or other certificates is not required, NOR can they be required by anyone but a court---not even LEOs or CGs!

All of the states that I have been in when there was a lien against a motorvehicle, We got the title but it was clearly marked as to who had a lien against it. after paying off the loan, the state sent a form to attach showing the lien released.
Each state handles things differently. Illinois retains the title until the lien is paid off.

If I did have the title, I would NEVER keep it in the vehicle.
Then there's the famous California "pink slip," which IS the title - and must be carried by anyone driving the vehicle. At least that was the rule when we lived there.

Hey kknowlton, actually Illinois doesn't keep the title, the lien holder keeps the title. But your right, the "owner" doesn't have the title until paid off. I could understand why a CG owner would want proof of shots for your dog but why the RV? They would sure have no liability if the unit was stolen. Never heard of anyone wanting proof of ownership. Could understand at border crossings though.

I'm in California, since 1953. The white registration, reissued annually with the tags, is in the vehicle. The "pink slip" title document is reissued when it is changed, as in paid off, and stays home in a secure location.

Title documents who owns it. Registration identifies that fees have been paid and who paid them and who the title holder says can drive it.

Where this was posted that family was from another country and yes when traveling out of this country and into Canada or Mexico they can ask for ownership certificate, If you have a lein and no title you can and sometimes have to have the lein holders permission by written document to take that vehicle out of the country, usually not hard to obtain but U must provide proof of insurance in that country..Now with all that said they may not ask you if everything else check out.
So far as state camp grounds they have similar authority by home land security to do that if they like.. One campground we stay sometime, they come around with a pad and paper and check all Vin#'s and license plate #'s.. I think it is a good thing because like these people who ever stole their 5er sure will be careful not to go to these places...

I would think this is the case. I'll bet 1 in 10 don't have the title to their RV let alone carry it with them.

I have never heard of it either.. And I like the way you phrased what you might well ask the person asking for the title to do.. That was very good

(Wonder how many either 1: Had to google the verb, or 2: Just said "What is he talking about?")

In Wisconsin when you buy a vehicle, the DMV prints them all out on one long piece of paper, both the title and the registration..

I am originally from Illinois. There the loan company keeps your title as hostagage until paid off. Therefore you would never have your title to show anyone.

When I bought my first car in Wisconsin I thought they made a mistake at the DMV when they printed out the title and 'gave' it to me!
Heck in Chicago Illinois if you want a duplicate title expect to wait 6 weeks to ever receive it, IF you ever are able to get in the DMV to order it!

That all said, I would not stay at a facility that requested to see my title period. Some do ask to see 'registration' because they only allow newer RV's in their parks and most cannot tell one year from another.
The front end of the Ford Class C's have looked the same for eons, so I have often wondered about the validity of the restriction on older models allowed in RV Parks.

Sounds like there is confusion between the title and registration of the vehicle.
Do not carry the title with you in the RV unless you are planning on selling it. It is a very foolish thing to do. If someone gets the title, they have the ability to re-register it as theirs and you will have difficulty recovering your property.
All that is required is that you carry the registration certificate in the vehicle and show it to LE when requested. As to showing it to a CG operator: Why?
