Everybody does it differently.

I have one map for "trucking".
If I drove in/through the State, then it counts.

I have one for Motorcycle.
If I have ridden IN the state, then it counts.

The one for the TT counts States that the "wheels have rolled over.

I keep separate maps because I have made it a personal goal to do it the differen't ways with different vehicles.

It's a "STATES VISITED" map.
Use it accordingly.

PS
Since I have been to/in a total of 49 States, parts of Mexico, and parts of Canada, I can't see where someone's "bragging rights" really matters in this thing at all.
There's ALWAYS someone who's been more than you have.

Just use it the way you choose and don't worry about the personal choices of others.

It's actually kinda silly (OK a LOT silly) to worry about what others are doing to this level.

On my camper I fill in the states that the trailer has been in.

Does this include the state it was manufactured in and the states it was towed through on its way for delivery to the selling dealer?????

We only put the stickers of the Great Lakes on our map when we had gone swimming in each of the Great Lakes.... Finally got Lake Michigan this summer. Lake Superior was hardest to get into but we managed to swim in a few places over a few years. Lake Michigan turned out to be the easiest this summer - many wonderful state parks on the Lake with good water access.
We only put our state stickers on when we have camped there - only 3 more to go (not counting Hawaii). Have to update my map!

now I guess I cheat because I count it if I waded in the lake, don't have to actually swim.

I did a similar thing in 1998.
When I was trucking.....

I picked up a load in west Florida on a Monday morning.
The afternoon before, I parked down near the beach and went swimmin'.
The "new" load went to Kalifornia, to the LA area.

I made the run.
I arrived on Wednesday afternoon, and that night before I delivered I went down and "waded" in the Pacific.

I accomplished the feat....

I travelled coast to coast by DRIVING the entire trip, and swam in TWO Oceans.
All within 4 Days.

I put the Illinois sticker on mine because I once stopped at O'Hare to switch planes on my way from Dayton to LA....and, oh yeah, I also put on the Florida sticker because I thought about going there next winter. Hey....it's my stickers!

That's OK.

I dream often about the day Kalifornia slides off in the ocean.

So I went ahead and marked all the BEACHES on my Arizona map.

Whew! Here we go again.

Only place a sticker if we put out the slides and stabilizer jacks.

If we boondock at a WM for a couple hours, no sticker.

Many look for excuses to add stickers just to fill the map. I have a friend that has placed stickers on his current camper in places he camped while a child. PENALTY FLAG!

I always ask people who have many states filled in if they have camped there. More often than not, it is just states they have "drove" thru, or visited. Man, if I was able to place sticker for every state I visited, I'd have to have three maps of the US on my camper!

I've always figured people added stickers to these kind of "sticker" maps according to their own rules, so I've never paid any attention to them. Basically, since there's no standard accepted rules on when to add a sticker, they thus mean nothing to anyone except the one posting them.

The DW and I can't even agree on how we are going to apply stickers to our map, so I certainly would never expect a concensus on here with so many different personalities.
