I figure I will start a thread on this; I'll dig it up and update it when I've made a few changes every now and again to get ideas and comments on what I'm doing.

OK, to start:

Interior:

I started with some polishing compound on the aluminum "stripe" on the body to see how it might clear up:
Before

After

Not a huge difference yet, but this was after about 5 minutes of polishing without abrasives or much effort yet. BUT, notice how much clearer you can see my lime green shirt!

This weekend, I bought new fasteners to replace the rusted ones on the outside. Each will be replaced by hand so I can torque them properly and to sand/paint underneath them. I can't stand bolts painted over.

I also bought some new reflectors:

Sanded, primed, painted, and clearcoated the background for the logos on the side... looks a bit better, but I need to find some new logos.

I also started on the countertop... I'm a bit undecided about where to go with them; the wife wants to do a mosaic; I decided to paint them white to see how the wood paneling will look with some brighter colors in there. I may skip painting the walls if it looks a lot better.

This is simply a household latex over the standard countertop. I will fine-sand it and coat it for protection once I am satisfied with the coverage.

And other than a BUNCH of electrical stuff, that's where I am right now! I lucked out when I replaced the electrical plug this weekend. As soon as I connected the power, the A/C, fridge, water pump and lights all turned on (then the house's circuit breaker promptly tripped). But it ALL works (A/C compressor needed a new ground).

I hope to have her up and going by next summer.

Looks pretty darn good like it is, Holiday really had a good product in those days. Have you checked out the roof and floor structures for water damage? Keep us informed of your progress, Good Luck, Ronnie

Nice trailer! I liked the avacado! I would have liked a bigger one, but I'm maxed out on my TV.

I like the way the white paint on your countertop looks. But, I'd suggest that if you plan to keep it, to go back and give it a proper primer as your basecoat...something like Kilz or Zinzer. Those will hold the new paint better and it will seal up the old counters very nicely.

My Mom & Dad had a '69 HR, it wasn't the vacationer though, it was 29 ft. what a heavy thing it was but boy did we have a lot of fun with it.
They traveled all over the country with it and a lot of Canada too.
My brother has it now, it's supposed to be set up on a lake up north for seasonal camping. Never had a roof leak either.
Good luck with it...brings back a lot of very fond memories.

Ok, to answer a couple questions:

No, the roof does not leak anywhere. Actually, I'm surprised at how well the sealant has held up over the course of nearly 40 years. And it's structural. I spent most of yesterday up there cleaning.

Holiday Ramblers must have some sort of mud dauber pheromone used in their construction. I broke up at least a dozen nests, many of which were in the A/C unit and on the electrics... hence my rewiring.
