My kids are teens and their favorite thing is going home - they do not like camping.

Yes I remember being a teenager and not wanting to go. Now I wish I had those trips back. I have lost some camping relatives since then.

Currently, I am about 3 years away from my oldest becoming a teen, and I do dread the fact that he will undoubtedly lose the desire to be with us on a camping trip as well.

We've got 2 teens right now and we've found the key is to try to tailor the camping trip around what they like. Now our idea of camping fun is sometimes quiet R & R, long walks, taking a drive to go exploring, hiking, reading, trying fun new recipes in our dutch oven...but they like listening to their favorite music, swimming at the pool (we make sure the CG has one), riding scooters/bikes, playing video games in the arcade, & going out for pizza ...so, we make time for those activities so they are having fun too. We've also purchased a larger TT so if the weather is bad we have plenty of personal space inside (has made a huge difference) and we allow them to each bring a friend occasionally.
Seems to be working so far...fingers crossed, they're 13 & 16!! We figure in just a few years, they'll be grown and we'll have all the time in the world to camp "our" way

My 3 year old son just loves being outdoors throwing sticks and whatever else he can find into the fire pit, locating and stomping on insects, playing with other kids and when he's inside the 5ver, he enjoys flushing the toilets for no reason and being the obligatory pest to his 8 month old sister and pushing just about every button he can find.........including all of my buttons as well. Our daughter, is fine as long she gets her three hots and cot and plenty of attention.
It's just the usual I guess!

My 4 year old twins can't wait to go camping. We haven't taken them to any resort type campground yet but, they do enjoy bike riding, playgrounds, fishing and bear hunts. They also like to take the camper to all the fairs that we show pigs at. Well DW and I enjoy bring the camper to the fairs we spend a couple of nights at just to have home to go to that is only a short distance from the barn!

I have one teen, so as long as she can have her music and shopping (even if it's just for CG candy), she's happy. The 12 & 9 year olds are into the CG activities ("hey" rides, crafts, pet parades, etc.), swimming, riding bikes/scooters, playgrounds, making new friends, campfires & smores. All three like to explore the campground and play their hand-helds, as well.

What mine liked about camping was that my attention was focused on them, not on work, some chore at the house, a TV program, or my own recreation.

That is so my 9 year old son!! My 11 year old is a history buff and he loves to visit National Parks/Forts. Of course they both love their bunkbeds since they don't have any at home. Smores and swimming are at the top of their list too!

Time after time, year after year our grandkids always said their favorite part of camping with us are the flashlight walks through the trees or along the beach. I don't think it matters where, just that its dark, they are young (oldest is 9) and they all have a flashlight while grandpa carries a lantern! Sometimes gets a little spooky on nights when there is no moon so they all stick close together!

I did most of my camping with my sons at scouting events. The favorite activities of the boys always included sharpening sticks with a knife and poking them in the fire.

Our kids always enjoyed going camping - but then there were 7 of them
so there was always lots of activity and people to do things with. Our favorite thing was going water skiing because it was fun for the teenagers and the younger kids who could just swim or ride in the boat. Another thing the kids always loved is that we would take them camping on school nights to a local campground - here it was usually to the beach. We'd have a simple dinner and campfire, go to bed, then get them up in the morning and drive them to school. They still talk about how much fun that was. Now we're starting over again with grandkids - can't wait!
