When you have them checked do they take them off and look or just an external check?

An interesting Article on Tire Life

---------

A worthy video with an underlying warning that's NOT to be ignored - Especially when applied to motorhomes tires. Tire usage or miles logged DOES NOT begin to address the condition (inside) of that tire ... commerical protectorants & coverings aside. And the grand boasts of TLC of tires on the axle for any time over 6 years, IS NOT something of which to be proud!

Here ends the sermon, & my soapbox stowed back into the storage bay.

Presently, mine are Michelin made in 0202 - second week of 2002. I ordered a new set of Michelins a week or two ago and have been waiting until we stop using the MH in a week or so and will have them changed then.

I figured what the heck - I am going to change them anyway very soon, the motorhome ain't going anywhere, they are just getting more expensive -- and so why gamble our safety with these. I saw one a while back and the repair was about 50 grand for a rear tire that blew and took out part of the wheel well, fiberglass side, some of generator compartment and wiring to and from the generator.

Up date. Replaced the tires with new AZA 3 at Kal Tire. Had the 7 yr old tires checked out by the Michellin dealer. I was advised that 4 were great condition and the remaining 2 only had cosmetic drying (cracks)and had between 8/32 & 9/32 tread left after 58,000 miles(18/32 new) As a bonus Kal Tire advised they would send the tires back for recapping after the factory checked the belts I could get up to $70 for each of the Tires. I quess I could of gotten another year or 2 out of them. But then I do not wait until my oil only has 25% life left or do I only want to have 25% flow in the old ticker.

From reading all these tire ADVISORY posts apparently the safest and best course is to purchase a complete set of high quality, non Chinese tires, mount them on aluminum rims by a respected and carefully vetted tire installer, inflate them to the manufacturers specification after cross checking with the RV manufacturer specification, apply a recommended protectant, cover them carefully and place in storage for a period not to exceed 60 months...at which time you must replace them with a new complete set and repeat!IMHO with tongue in cheek!

We have GY G169's that are 5 years 5 months old with 31,500 miles on them and they will be replaced before we go South this winter.. I not one to take chances and for sure don't want a blow out along the interstate and damage to the RV.. Just our thoughts..

Four of my six tires are the originals (the rear four) and the coach is nine years old. They only have 33k miles and they look like new. My coach is pretty light (only 14k lbs.) so I don't overload them and I keep 'em covered They show no obvious signs of dry rot. I'll probably replace them in a couple of years or if one should fail but they just seem too good to just throw away.
