The drivers side window on my 2005 GMC 2500HD has developed a loud screeching noise when you put it up or down, and is loudest when putting it back up. Does anyone know of any cures for this?

It sounds like it may be the rubber seal at the bottom of the window opening. It may have hardened and may need some conditioner to soften it. Let the window all the way down and then treat the rubber seal with Armour All or a similar rubber gasket treatment to make it more pliable. Also wash the window thoroughly inside and out.

I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

This is my thinking too.

How about something like this....Rubber Seal Conditioner

Hope your cables are not going. My friend's Suburban has had problems with power windows. The cable inside the door breaks off and needs replaced.

According to him, it takes a special tool to secure the new cable so its a dealer fix. I think he said $250 per window. Going with a hand crank was his first thought, but that wasn't cheaper.
