So I had a major plumbing leak today. The cheap plastic shut off valve coming from my hot water tank cracked in half and I came home to a flooded kitchen.
Well I pulled out my kitchen cabinet drawers so I could get under there and fix the problem. After fixing the plumbing, I was wiping up water under the cabinets and noticed an electrical plug coming from my hot water heater that is not plugged into anything. Is this plug for electric hot water? Do I just need to run juice down there and plug it in to get electric hot water? Sounds to easy. Am I missing something?
I would love to convert to electric because my electric is included in with my rent. With the price of lp, This would be a great conversion for me.
I did a quick search here but came up empty handed.
Thanks in advance.
JEFF

Ps: model is sw6de suburban I believe.

Sounds like it. Somewhere near the heater did the manufacturer not place an outlet? Perhaps the installer just forgot to plug it in.

If you remove the outer cover of the heater (outside cover) there should be a black rocker switch marked off/on. If you have that the heater is wired for electric.

WELLA!!!!
So looking under my cabinet through the drawer openings, I noticed they did not cut the linoleum to fit. They just let it run up the wall. So out of curiosity I pulled out the utility knife and cut the extra lino out of there. Well what do ya know, I found an outlet back there. I plugged the heater in and wella! I have hot water.
The funny thing is, I remember when I bought this camper a year ago. The previous owner told me he wished the hot water heater was wired for electric. He lived in this thing for 10 summers already having what he wished for and did not know it.
This was a good plumbing leak!!!!!!!
Thanks for the help guys.

Jiga20001, Do you know if that outlet is just a direct receptical or does it actually have a dedicated switch?? Some advice here...Mine has a dedicated switch that lights up when it is on...a little mod of mine to know that in fact it is on from the inside of the TC. The inside switch will only light up if the outside switch is turned on. Gruffy is totally right on when he says that the outside of the waterheater will have a small rocker on/off switch. My only worry for you would be that you forget to turn off the outside switch and if your tank was dry from say storing it for the winter or replacing a rod and you are plugged into shore that you burn it up. Good find though!!! just remember to turn it off!

Here is that outside switch.

Here is the lighted switch with a plastic cover mod of mine to keep it from getting accidently turned off from kicking it stepping up the side step.

If you had a truck camper I'd tell yo to go back with a gas/electric, you would be able to use it when you were in the wilds.

I don't have any ideas about house trailers... is this the forum that you wanted to post to?
