While discussing a tire wear problem on my trailer, the service rep. told me I should never travel with my fresh water tank full. I should wait till I'm close to my destination and fill up there.
I've never heard of this.... Any comments????

Never heard that one either. Sounds like a bunch o' bunk... Unless the axles are vastly undersized for the TT, which has little to do with tires, if the tires are proper ST's.

I only carry a full tank when needed. If I need the water I do not hesitate to tow the entire way with the 50 gallon tank full.

Unless you are planning to do some boondocking and won’t have a ready source of water why carry the extra weight. It’s take extra fuel to move extra weight.

Bunk unless the weight puts you over some rating. The only real reason would not to carry around just dead wt. but 50 gal of FW is only around 400lbs and on say an 8000lb trailer is almost chump change as compared to aerodynamics, etc.

We supposedly have a 40 gallon water tank and if we fill it up that adds about 320 lbs. to the trailer load. Doubt this would overload the axles/tires since the GVWR is around 9000 lbs.

I certainly don't carry a full water tank. I carry enough to provide while on the road which is about 1/3 tank. of course if I boondocked that would be different.
why drag along the extra weight?

Not sure in what way you have a "TRAVEL TRAILER" if you can't travel with it loaded to it's GVWR. That would be only a step away from saying "don't take clothing with you but stop somewhere close to your destination and purchase some". Sounds to me that your dealer just didn't want to pay to have your axles inspected and aligned to fix your tire wear problem. If you don't NEED the water then no sense carrying it but if you CAN'T carry it then there is something wrong with your trailer.

Tire wear is silly and so is carrying 40 gals of water when not needed. I only haul water when there is no water or water source near the campsite.

Depending on the location of your water tank it could affect you tongue weight. It is important to know your tongue weight and what the added water weight would do to it, because this could also affect handling. Same thing applies if the tank is behind the axles.

Retirement: Waking up with nothing to do and going to bed with half of it done.
