For those of us with an Onan genset with the winter/summer option on the air cleaner door, is this a manual choke of some sort? When have you made the switchover? Freezing temps? Cooler temps? After hard starting attempt?
I guess what I'm looking for is an explanation on how to use this option.
Onan 6.5
Model: NHE FA26100N
Thanks.

It is a manual switch over. I would switch it when the weather starts to get cool.

It channels warm air in to the carb, to combat carburetor icing. I would probably use it in weather below 50 or so, but if you don't, it will let you know if it ices up.
I should add that quite often the tube which collects the warm air gets displaced.

Exactly. And if you leave it in winter mode during the hot weather, the genny could overheat.

Great explanations guys, Thanks. And yes, I've found the warming tube displaced. I just pushed it back into place. Surprised there isn't a more secure fastener on the attaching point considering the shaking the unit does on start-up. Again....thanks.

Ok fellas - adjacent to this winter/summer switch, there is a wire connected to what appears to be an internal heater (just a guess) Since I disconected it, the unit starts twice as fast. Anyone know what it really is?

There's a choke heater in that area, but if anything disconnecting that would (I think) make it run rough for a while after starting.
