Was wondering what the consensus is on when would be the earliest practical time to go to Alaska. Don't mind the cooler weather but sure would hate to get snowed in for a week on the side of the road.

Thinking about crossing over the border in Montana.

We have a 2007 Jayco Eagle 322FKS- 33 foot travel trailer and was wondering if anyone lately has made that trip pulling a long trailer??

You could go up their about anytime , but the services on the Alaskan
highway may not be open, like RV parks Gas and Diesel stations, grocery stores, Restaurants, we go the last week in May and that seems early enough, some places are just opening up for the Spring- Summer season then,

You could go to www.weather.com and type in any city, like Fairbanks, and see the averages for any month of the year.
As I remember, our tour guide said mid June was the best time to get there; or was it mid July?
I'm pretty sure it was mid June. But bring plenty of bug stuff.

As previously stated I don't think any earlier than mid-May. We've made the trip twice pulling a 28footer. You shouldn't have any problems with your unit. I've seen 40+foot MHs pulling toads so your length should be ok.

The usual tourist season up there is May 15-Sept 15. You can go up earlier, but not everything will be open.

We crossed into Canada on May 1st. Most of the services were open including the rv parks. However they didn't offer full hookups till after the 15th. They don't even think of turning on the water till then & the danger of frozen pipes is pretty much over.

We crossed from Washington into BC (Sumas) mid-May and there was still ice on some of the streams and lake edges. Some museums not yet open and restaurants mostly had just opened. I will target this as departure date when we go back.

We stayed in Tok on the 30th of April one year, and the campground was just some slots plowed in the snow. There was power, but no water of course. The temp. was well below freezing that nite.
Not a problem finding services, they are a little further apart, but very little competition.

Based on my experiences, the weather could be worse in the Rockies from CO to the Canadian border than in Alaska in May and June. Typically the snow season for Anchorage is over by the end of April. That isn't true for the Rockies since the high country can get snow EVERY month of the year. Been there and I've been in it!
Have a great trip.
