Not sure exactly what (or why) "Made in the USA" -or-
"Manufactured in the USA" . . . matters.
(Except that they are "assembled" by American workers).
Produced in the USA - would be a better term.
Example:
If you Google "Toyota Manufacturing Plants" - you will find that
11 Toyota and Lexus models are also - "Manufactured in the USA" !!
Quote:
"In 13 locations across North America, more than 36,000 team members are producing* over 1.3 million vehicles, more than 1.5 million engines, and nearly 400,000 automatic transmissions per year."
Note the asterisk after "producing".
Quote: (the asterisk)
"*Toyota vehicles and components are built using U.S. and -
globally sourced parts.
~
The same applies to Subaru.
"The Industrial Parts Division of FHI manufactures and sells commercial engines, pumps, and generators under the Subaru Robin brand in North America and as Robin everywhere else."
Seems logical they also use - "globally sourced parts".
~
JC We use the above "shell game" to sell Chinese apparel and other items. You have to nowadays, because you always run into some brain-dead buyer, that wants to change the world with your vendor items......all the while wearing shoes and underwear made in Asia. It gets old, but it's now become necessary to put Made in U.S.A. on nearly anything. One of my manufacturers is based out of Texas, so the warehouse in Texas is played-up really big, so as not to be labelled Made in China. Deleting the China from some of the labelling, and leaving the U.S.A., is all most importers are doing these days.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

Paid the same price as the big box stores. Means nothing. I sell U.S.A. Olympic-style gimme caps Made in China, just like the decal and components are Made in China used to construct your Sears generator. Nothing is Made in the U.S.A., including trucks, cars, and your athletic shoes, socks, and underwear.
You are correct about your caps and many of the other items you mention and it is almost impossible to purchase any clothing made in the U.S. but to make a blanket statement that NOTHING is made in the USA is incorrect.

I don't really mind as much it assembled in the USA of foreign components. The workers performing the final assembly here will probably catch problems a bit better than in other countries. The biggest gripe I have is Chinese made things. Some of the other third world countries are almost as bad, like India, Thailand, and I don't care for them either, but the worst quality control seems to be coming out of China. Yea, Chinese things look pretty and nice, and their certainly amazingly cheap, but you pay for it in the long run when it malfunctions. There is absloutely zero quality control on the stuff...their only job is to get it out the door quickly and cheaply to keep all the clueless, ignorant buyers in big-box stores happy!
Who would have thought I would have preferred mexican made products, but I have noticed, suprisingly enough, Mexican products seem to be of a little bit better quality than Chinese made products! If I have a choice between two junky items in a store, I will buy the Mexican product over the Chinese product. Also, when it comes to electronics, the best electronics seem to come out of Japan... many of the electronics manufacturers (Sony, LG, and other bigger names) have moved to China. Some of the smaller ones (Canon) are still in Japan

As I sit at my computer I hear the sounds eminating from a huge manufacturing plant. I wonder what on earth they could possibly be doing to make all that racket since they could not possibly be making anything in there.
Onan has a huge facility near St. Paul, MN. Generac has a huge facility near Waukesha, WI. I don't know what they produce in these locations specifically, but both companies businesses are based on production of generators.

Don't know if I would claim that American workers are really all that much better than overseas. I just had to junk diesel Onan generator(<2000 hrs total time) and then was handed a bill of $5000(it originally was over $8k) all due to the incompentance of Onan repair techs that they admitted to. My MH was going to be held in lue of payment. I threatened a law suit and the bill was suddenly reduced to $2300. I due have my MH(though I not them had to put it back together) back now and have replaced the generator with a new Winco generator at less than 1/8th the original cost of repairs.

Don't know much about them but I know of three people whose Guardian whole house generators locked up on then with very little running time during Gustav. They were put in after Katrina/Rita. All were designed to run on propane/natural gas. My doctor has a 70,000 watt home unit. Says he has to have it serviced every 200 hours.
Findng good people with skills to repair anything has been a growing problem in the U.S. for years.
