We are planning to leave MN. after Christmas and should arrive RGV 1st part of January. Hope we don't have trouble finding places to camp coming that late. We have been in Florida the last 2 winters and would like to do something different and see Texas. Hope they are truck camper friendly. Would appreciate any information.

You should have no problem finding a place to stay - there are many, many campgrounds. However the RGV covers a lot of area so you will need to decide what you like.
The first winter we went to south Texas we joined Passport America. The half price deals paid the cost in a week. Typically it limits you to three days at each campground but we were able to travel from Rockport to South Padre to Mission over a 6 week period. We got to see a lot of places and get to know the area, and never had a problem finding a place to stay. We finally found a park near Mission that we like where we spend 2 months. But we still use PA when traveling.

PA is honored at Mission West RV Resort for 14 consecutive days at $14/night. Go there and then spend 2 weeks looking for your favorite area. Texas is not Florida, you are made to feel welcome in the RGV, by the locals. Also, with 500 RV parks in the Valley, price are considerably lower for better amenities.

I haven't stayed in a Park in the RGV that is not truck camper friendly.
I hope you enjoy Texas. We sure have.
