I would think it would be very difficult to come up with any sort of fact sheets with respect to TT. This was mentioned in this thread.

I am not a TT hater but I was very clear in my post about my three days free with an aggressive presentation.

The problem is that there are way too many variables. There are no set prices from what I can tell. Basically, they just get as much as they can from you. I think it is BS. There are different regions of campgrounds and different prices depending on what you choose and negotiate. New campgrounds get added and some get sold or taken away. There are cabins that are included in some memberships and they were talking about timeshare stuff when I was there a year or so ago.

When things don't have a set price I become very suspicious of what the actual value is.

The facts as I know them are that unless you are a certain age, the yearly fees can and will go up. They do not freeze until you are a certain age.

The site I mentioned staying in was a "special" site I was told. It was special because I was staying for free. That is why there was no sewer hookup, 30 amp service and the water thing didn't work. The park was not full and I could have been given a better spot.

If I retire and camp for more than a month or so a year, I will consider joining such a camping membership.

Contrary to general belief, there HAVE been several people who posted they paid 12,000 and more for their memberships. They admitted they got taken, so to speak. If you would go to fulltime section, there is a current thread running on TT and memberships in general. I made two or three post showing what people are paying for used memberships. You may want to go take a look at them.

I have never been 'stuck with a no service whatsoever site' at TT, besides the economy is so bad all of the campgrounds are empty any way. The most important piece of information about TT is; do not listen to anyone on this forum that is not a current member of TT. For they do not know what they are talking about.

Since I am not a current member of TT, please feel free to ignore this post, but I don't think it has been mentioned yet in this thread that someone posted in the past that some/many/all of these outfits have a distance from your HOME park that you can't stay in other parks so they recommended that you NOT make your home park near your actual home so you have an assortment of parks to use close by.
But like I say, I am not currently a member so please ignore this warning.
thanks for your support.

There is no such thing as "these outfits have a distance from you home park that you cannot stay in other TT preserves" We can go from the Preserves close to where we live or far away, makes no difference.
Where your home park makes no difference as far as TT is concerned

So if you are buying one with one transfer left - why would anybody buy a membership they couldn't get out of? I could only think that if your a retired couple and pass away, then of course there would be no recourse for Thousand Trails. I don't know legally if they could sue the estate for anything or not?

But it seems on this BB I have read of an instance where this has happened......

My 2 cents --- YOU DONE GUD!!! Stay away from them.

I took the plunge and I live in middle MO and find it very hard to use my membership. I'm stuck....

Finally tried to use it last year in WA and left the CG as it had elec only and a back-in spot where I couldn't get my 5vr leveled. On-duty mgr said we res the best we have... Left and went to Olympia and found a great spot with shade, full hook ups, and a friendly staff.

KOA is a fine way to go.

yes, there have been reports here where they billed the heirs/estate for the fees.
And the "facts" should be spelled out for TT and for all of the other outfits out there that are asked about here, such as Coast to Coast. and yes, somebody previously posted about the 100 mile limit or some such for a home park. Since somebody here posting did not know about it, that is exactly the type of thing that is NEEDED to be posted in one of these threads.

Hi Bumpyroad,

I thought I'd talk about several points you and others have made.

Someone said they would not buy anything that didn't have a fixed cost.
I guess you never bought a car, or truck, motorhome, or trailer? They have sugested prices, but are negotiable. In addition there are many levels of cars you can buy. In my Dodge Ram, you can get one for a little over 10k sripped down, or pay over 50K for CTD, and Laramie package with all the fixins!

I bought the Platinum because I do plan to retire and full time in a few years. I wanted to be able to stay 365 days a year in the system for no extra cost. Right now the cost is $549 a year. And I payed $2500 on Craigs list for it.

No lifetime contracts anymore. Courts deemed it enslavement. They can however put a time limit on it. Mine became three years when I bought the resale. So for 3 years I am committed to either pay the dues or resale to someone else. After that I can choose to dump it.

They are now unlimmeted resale. They want to continue to receive the annual dues. Doesn't do them any good if someone quits paying!

No 125 mile rule for homeparks. I can use any TT in the system.

As far as overflow. I keep hearing people say that's a bad thing?
I am fairly new and have only been to four parks, but I have always had FHU. The thing I would say is that campgrounds fill up! That's especially true in SoCal where I live. If you get reservations you are gurenteed hookups. But I'm thankful that if the CG has already been booked, I still have somewhere to park with overflow. As soon as a site opens, you can always move to it! The state parks near me, that have NO hookups fill up months a head of time on weekends at $25.00 per night. That's why I am thrilled they do allow overflow!

I still work FT - 40 hours per week. I got a family card for $30.00 for my 80 year old dad. Between him and us, we have used TT since July, 30 nights. I had to pay half a year of dues ($275). So for us it has been a BARGAIN! The $2500 I payed I expect to be realized our first year of full timing which is in 3 1/2 years.

Hope this helps...

God Bless,
Brian

Bumpy.. C2C has NO long term contract.. In fact, if you don't pay your annual dues, THEY WILL DROP YOU, PERIOD.. They will send you a reminder, but you do not have to continue your annual dues, if you so choose..
I think you are confusing C2C and a Home Park that someone belongs too.. Totally different contracts.. Each Home Park has their own separate contract they sign with a buyer..
Since there are several hundred different Home Parks, no one will really know what is in each one of them..

TT also has different contracts, and one need to understand them, just like ANY contract you sign..

That is why we say, to read/understand what is in them..

The 125 mile rule does NOT refer to TT, but does to C2C..

I think the only way TT would bill an heir/estate for annual dues, is they probably didn't know the person died.. NO heir/estate would pay such a bill.. A lawyer would have a field day with this one... OR a letter letting them know about your death would probably work too..

If you still owe money on your original contract, making payments, then it is possible they would want that fullfilled, just like making payments on a RV or car...
Would your payment to your RV, Home, Car stop if you died?? I think banks holding the contract would still want their money.. Your heirs would still need to fullfill the contract..
