I guess we have been lucky. We have used them twice and had good experences with them both times. Now billing is something else....

ERS- Emergency Road Service. I am constantly amazed when people post that they are in their drive and want EMERGENCY service. Call a wrecker, tire service, mobile mechanic. Stuck in your drive for whatever reason doesn't qualify as an emergency by any stretch of the imagination.

I thought that most of these ESPs would not pull a flatbed trailer. they were an exclusion. if so, you shouldn't badmouth a specific one.

Have had GS ERS for three years. They have responded 3 times to my calls and I have never been disapointed, It is very suspect though to have a brand new member only having two post come on and slam a service with those two post. I'm not disputing the bad service or condoning it, but maybe it needs to be put in context.

It isn't only Good Sams, in 1998, we were 30 miles outside of Dallas Tx. on a friday afternoon when the overdrive in our car went out. We had Allstate Roadside Service at the time. We got off I-35 in Tyler Tx. and stopped at a local transmission shop that did not have national warranties. We called Allstate for help. We were actually told to get the car INTO Dallas and they could help us! The owner of the shop did way more than he had to. he reprogrammed the cars computer to ignore the overdrive sensor and as long as we did not drive over 50 mph the transmission shifted fine. we made it into Dallas. replaced the transmission the following week. and as soon as we returned home, we cancelled the Allstate policy and DEMANDED and got a refund.

We tried to use the Good Sam ERS twice. Once no-one ever showed up even after the Good Sam rep on the phone said they were on the way. Multiple calls and no satisfaction from Good Sam.

The second time, after several calls and a four hour wait the service people finally showed up. Not exactly stellar service IMO.

Neither episode occurred in a remote area and both were fairly close to a major metropolitan area.

That's why I won't use GS (or similar). I prefer my plan which allows me to call any tow service I want to wherever I want and get refunded after submitting the receipt, (up to $250 per year per vehicle). That way I'm not at the mercy of GS (or others that contract their road services to the lowest bidder). I've used mine three times - once for keys locked in a running vehicle and two others for towing. I received my refund four business days after submission. Perhaps if GS spent as much time fulfilling their promises as they do sending me a forests worth of promotional literature every month........

Good Sam left me flat in my driveway in Dallas, Texas, because they couldn't find a service company at 5:00 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, any closer than Fort Worth, Texas, 50 miles away........AND on the side of I-45 south of Houston, Texas permanently. They are worthless jack*sses.

How's that for Good Sams?

A couple of days before I got rid of Good Sam's coverage, I also had a flat tire in my driveway on the edge of Raleigh, NC on a Saturday evening. I spent three hours while Good Sam attempted to get me some assistance and the best they could do was to get someone to respond on Sunday after church. I then got on the phone and the first towing service I called, responded in less than an hour at my expense.

That was the second experience within a year. The other one was a flat tire (ran over a nail) in WV. Good Sam finally found a company to respond, but told me I would have to pay and they would reimburse me. Not being very happy, I paid the bill, but lost the receipt before we got home, thus no reimbursement.

Now I have to live on a daily basis with my mail box being cluttered with their mailings. Have tried everything suggested to get off their various lists without success. The only satisfaction I now get is to send their junk back to them in their self addressed envelope!

GS has been good to me. I'm sure there are equal numbers of good/bad stories.

You can go online to the Good Sam website and stop the mailings. I did that 3 years ago, and now rarely get anything in the mail from GS.

ERS has been good to me. I have saved enough to pay my membership for the rest of my days on this planet. Save it for real emergencies. Too many of the examples preceding this post have NOT been emergencies.
