"Houses are worth only what someone will pay for it." Even though I'm on the young side, I always have full-timing on my mind and I'm still prepping for it. You never know what the economy will bring and you have to live somewhere, I'd rather know I have some control over my destiny.

We started our new life style in Feb and are loving every minute of it. We spent a month, in a couple of different areas of Texas then another month in Colorado. We attended a rally in Wyo. and then moved on to South Dakota. We fell in love with the Custer area and the campground we stayed in, so we stayed a month there.
After enjoying what Minn. and Wisconsin had to offer we went on into Indiana and Ohio.. Love the Amish country.
We arrived here in Gettysburg Pa. Thursday and plan to stay here for a week. We are staying in a campground right in the battlefield area. It is beautiful here and so interesting.
We plan to move over the the Lancaster area then on to the DC area. Sometime by the end of Oct. we will head south. We have no idea where we are going to spend the winter. Where ever we land, it will be sooo much better than stuck in our stick and brick, dreaming of what we always wanted to do.
Life is good.

No way. You have a positive attitude and as Trkrhelp said, we all have to overcome things at times. Even that doesn't change when you're on the road fulltiming. We wish you the best of luck.

DW and I are coming up on the 3rd anniversary as "fulltimers". It's been different than expected; but we've not been dissapointed.
It's been a long time since I've checked these forums(maybe because life has been 'chocked full' since we began) but they were crucial in preparing us for the lifestyle before we began in February of '06.
We're currently in Northern Indiana where we're awaiting repairs to blowout damage on our 5th Wheel and taking care of annual maintenance. From here it's back to Houston where we spend 4 or 5 months each winter visiting with family and friends before heading our again in the spring.

Important points...
1)DW and I are "best friends"
2)We agree that we will continue until one of us wants or needs to stop
3)We both have the temperament to take the 'bumps' of life in stride

We went back to fulltiming 12/1/07 - put the house up for sale a couple months later (it's sold now). We're back to being happy owning our lives again instead of dedicating them to the "stuff" 
Talking about trying times....how did YOU fair with getting Mellow Yellow repaired and back up on her tires and on the road again?

The more a read these forums the more I am ready to hit the road. We are still young, so to speak (40 & 37). I guess thats young to begin fulltiming. We also have 17 & 15 year old to get thier own lives going first. Oh yeh, we also have a 1 year old (Yes 1) also that I want to homeschoool and maybe if I'm lucky roadschool. The wife has a very good career in the home health field so right now would not be the time the "hit the road". But I am reading and learning all I can before that time comes. We have a 31' Class A RV now that we use as much as we can. I'm hoping the hit the road in about 10 years or so. That is still some time away but I am counting the days. Thats only 3,650 days + or - a day or two. LOL
Sorry for all the blabbing but just wanted to add my 2 cents. Happy travels and Happy days to all you that are already on the road. Future fulltimer here, I promise.

When we started our little adventure in October on 2004, we had lots of concerns and felt compromised to death. As October 2008 starts, I thought back to those first days. We had a strong enough truck, despite our efforts things can and do break, but they also get fixed. Knew we would not travel much because of work, but didn't expect to spend over 18 months sitting still either.
All things taken on balance full timing is still the best decision we've made in a long while.
Since the big rig needed to sit still, we bought a second rig for weekend outings, and vacations. That's right I said vacations....which many full timers don't have that luxury.
The world is what you make of it.
Most of our full timing neighbors are frighten and just plain scared these days. It seems that its all about the money and travel plans which are now onhold yet again. They seem to have for gotten that its not where you go in life but how many chuckles and smiles you experienced along the way.
If I have one concern about the future its that the lifestyle may be headed for extinction. While the credit crisis will be relatively short lived, the fear will probably not.
My great great grand parents would likely be scratching thier heads, if they were still alive, at the fear and anger over money. Gideon Cole in particular, probably tried to change the conversation to the "weather" as it would be more interesting. "We all have, what we have." He'd say, and waiting for assurance of a clear and sunny day means we're wasting what time we have to enjoy.

I think we will be safe in knowing this type lifestyle will continue. We're Americans... we overcome anything and our desires to travel and experience this freedom will surely not be destroyed by the situation we find ourselves in right now. This too shall pass.
Your great great grandparents were right.
