Just make sure your wife is standing a safe distance away with the video recorder. It will probably be nothing but just in case you could win $10,000. on Americas Funniest Home Videos and we could all see you.

Well, on my first camping trip this weekend, I got out of it. The rest rooms were only 40 yards from our RV so we used them instead.
So, I guess I chickened out for now.

This morning was a first for the DW and I in black tank dumping, after a few laughs and a couple of oops, we make it and all came out okay(pardon the pun). We are looking forward to another camping trip and I'm sure the next "black tank" adventure will be a lot easier. I did learn one thing this morning, and that is don't shut off the pump until you have put water and chemicals back into the black tank.
Thanks again for all the help and encouragement.

To answer your question.. There is so much that can go wrong, and almost never does (but then on the other hand sooner or later SOMETHING will go wrong) and society has a major hang up on what goes in the black tank.. So being nervous is about 200 percent normal.
You will get used to it and once the worst happens.. You won't fear it any more
Suggestion.. Get one of those handy pump spray bottles at the local drug store, about a pint size or a bit smaller. Put little chlorine bleach in the bottom of the bottle (perhaps a quarter inch's worth) and fill with water, give it a couple of shakes and keep it handy.. Good for treating what needs treating
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

I am not sure what I am paranoid about. (Will something leak on the ground or spray everywhere, will I connect the hose correctly etc?)
Will I be able to get some type of assistance if needed? Should I ask the person behind me in line to help? When I called the state park, they said a maintenace man can possibly help.
I am sure once I do this the first time, I will be OK after that.
I'll make sure to laugh.
Exactly how hard could it be to figure out how to make a sealed hose connection with the comercialy available designs today?
Like less hard then doing a 10 piece picture puzzle that a pre-school kid used to easily figure out.
Sorry, but the puzzle just isn't that hard.

Sprig; I bet you were a pro at it your first time out...Not, give the guy a break we all have to learn by doing, myself included.

So what is there to be nervous about? Whether you are in a 5er, TT or MH this is the big common demoninator. So put on your gloves, take your time and follow the advice given by the others. Happy trails.........

As a new owner, I have insisted that both the DW and I know how to do everything including dump and flush. One major fault to this plan is that she expects me to teach her everything. I knew nothing of dumping. So, I told her she needed to come along with me.
A shared learning experience?, she quized.
No!
A memory making moment? she inquired.
No!
And so it went on.
We get to the dump station and she finally understands as I tell her the following.
I've never done this before. I have no idea what I am doing. There is no one else around to ask for help. Here. Hold the hose ready because at the first sign of something going wrong, you start hosing me down.
Everything went fine. Just remember, it may not be a bad thing to get hosed.

Actually, it is so easy even a caveman could be a pro first time out.
I don't like the idea that newcomers reading this thread get the feeling there is some type of learning curve to the process; because there isn't.
The only issue is the thought of POO being in that odd flexy slinkly like thing.
In reality, it is more complicated to hook up 50amp service on most RVs.
The 50Amp connector requires more careful alignment of the connector since it is keyed to only go in one way. And, then the retaining ring has to be aligned so it can be snugged into postion. And, the procedure is more complicated, because sequence matters. The breaker should be turned off before conection to the pole. If the pole only has 30Amp service, then an adapter needs to be used.
Dumping is EASY in comparison! The bayonet connection isn't individualy keyed; get one lined up, and the rest follow. Stuff the other end of the flexible pipe into the hole (could actually put either end in place first). Pull the scarey POO handle.
At this point, pulling the grey handle is good idea, though technically optional.
Using some sort of flush system is a good idea, but again is technically optional.
Reverse the above procedures to disconnect either.
I hope begining RV'rs appreciate my non-mystical comments on the procedure.
