Hello all, I am the new owner of a 2006 22' Dutchmen Rainier and so far we have been very happy with our purchase and new adventures. We just purchased the TT 3 days ago and we are currently camping on the Oregon Coast. Needless to say we really didn't have much time to debug the TT on top of cleaning and packing it for this trip.

We are having an issue with water pressure and air in the water lines. Our water pump continuously runs and I cannot seem to get the air out of the water lines. Also, when I run the shower there is not nearly enough water pressure. Essentially I can only get a small drizzle out of the shower head along with all the air coming out.

I have tried:

Hook up to park/city water, turn on the pump, and open all faucet outlets to relieve the air. I did this for about 5 minutes and saw no decrease in the amount of air coming out.

Open and close the fresh water drain multiple times to check for any open air inlets. Also while doing this when I open the drain only a small trickle of water comes out. I would have guessed a steady stream would flow??

What should I try next?

Thanks,
Jason

Check to see if you have a water fill valve. This valve fills the fresh water tank. If this valve is partially open you can be sucking air from the city water fill.

Would this valve typically be inside near the pump? Or under the belly near the drain?

Thanks,

It really depends on your make and model.
First look in your owners manual. It should tell you how to fill the fresh water tank. You may have to look for it. It would normally be in a compartment near the water connection.
You should not be operating pump when connected to city water.
Is your fresh water tank in a location where you can see it? If it can be seen you maybe able to follow line back toward pump and city water connection.

Also,

--make sure the WH bypass valves are in the right position
--bleed the air out of the HW tank through the relief valve
--if you have an outside shower make sure the valves are off, not just the shower head

If you are still getting air and the pump is running check for an air intake leak between the pump and the water tank....Brian

A Leak between the FW tank and the pump, allowing air into the line? Or a defective water pump?

When you drain the FW tank water should come out in a steady stream. Maybe the vent is plugged? If so this also could cause low water pressure under certain circumstances. As when the tank is full. Less of a problem if tank is 1/4 full.

Test by opening a faucet before you drain your FW tank. If water comes out in a stream, close the faucet to see if draining becomes slower. If that occurs, you should look closer at the vent.

Hmm.. everyone has said to check for an air leak into your fresh water tank. Even when I have no water in my fresh water tank though my pump will eventually turn off from simply the air pressure in the lines. My guess is that you've got a leak someplace else. Fresh water from the tank to the pump should come off the bottom of the tank so any air in the tank wouldn't be a problem. It's more likely to be in one of the lines instead. It's the pressure after the water goes through the pump that shuts the pump off. Doesn't matter if the pressure is air or water.. at least not in my trailer.

What happens if you connect to city water? Do you have full pressure? That would give you an idea of where to look for a leak.. either before or after the pump inlet.

Something to consider as well.. does your pump have an adjustment screw on it that is causing it not to function at optimal levels?

Are all the fittings on right going to and coming from the pump? If they aren't, the lines can't get primed enough for water to flow right.

It sounds as if it isn't taking a complete prime. If you are still getting air is it possible that the antifreeze pickup line valve is partially open to pull air.Otherwise there is still air in the system to purge.IMHO

The pump not getting primed is what I think it is. Also, to add to the mystery when I'm on city water, and the pump is off, the air problem is worse?

The minimal stream of water coming from the drain valve is the same whether the faucet is on or off.

I have traced the plumbing from the outside fill lines to the pump, and back out to (2) hot and cold lines that exit the TT from the bottom rear. I have yet to find any type of valve in the entire system other than the drain valve. Also, the (2) lines leaving the underside of the trailer in the rear have plastic plugs screwed in. I have removed these, cleaned the threads and made sure to tighten them up.

Any other idea's on whether this is a lack of prime issue what I can try next?

And by the way, thanks for the great feedback and advice so far. Unfortunately I did not receive an owners manual when we purchased this TT and the online manual is very much useless.

Thanks,
Jason
