You do know (as has been widely publicized in automotive circles) that Nissan's next generation Titan is rumored to be a variant of the 2009 Dodge Ram, and will be built by Chrysler right? Part of a sharing agreement between Nissan and Chrysler. Nissan gets the pickup, Chrysler get a Versa variant small car....

Nissan wanted the engine but didn't want the redevelopment costs to stuff the engine into the existing Titan. The new Titan will in fact be a Dodge with a Nissan Titan label and some Nissan body styling.

I believe that this has nothing to do with the half ton Nissan that is going to be a re-badged 1500 series Dodge. This transmission is intended for Nissan's commercial truck lines, those cab forward delivery box trucks we see running around town. Maybe Nissan is working on a completely inhouse designed and built heavy duty pickup line but I doubt it. With Titan's slow sales and the current market I cannot see them sticking their neck out so far.

The Titan in reality never really sold slow to anyone but Nissan's bean counters. It was their 4-5th selling vehicle. IIRC the only vehicles selling better were the Altima, Sentra, Murano, Versa, and I think the Rogue sneaked past when gas prices spiked. They only sell just above 1 million vehicles a year total. They had an unrealistic goal of selling 100k Titans a year. That would have outsold the Altima. That wasn't going to happen even before gas prices went up. Add in an almost nonexistant ad campaign and you get the current result. I'm not sure what they save with the deal with Dodge money wise as the Titans platform was shared with almost all of Nissan's trucks/suv's. I guess the biggie is labor savings by having Dodge build them for them in Mexico? FWIW Nissan has yet to outright confirm the Hemi in the Dodge made Titan. Only Chrysler has said anything firm about it. Take it for what you will.
