Dennis has a good idea for short trips (4-5 days) away from hookups. Freeze it all at home, and store it frozen in the refrigerator. Higher fat items thaw more quickly... ground beef, hot dogs, etc. Use them first, then save the steaks for a celebration later. Check your refrigerator with a calibrated thermometer.. if you're 41 or under, you're better than most home refrigerators, and your food will be fine. (Dry ice is not recommended in refrigerators or tightly sealed environments... it melts to CO2, but is fine in a cooler if you follow instructions, and need the extra freezer space.) You may find it's easier to store produce and drinks with regular ice in a cooler, and more expensive foods in the refrigerator, turned to the coldest setting. We carry food for a week in our refrigerator, but it may be a little larger than the one in a Casita 16.
PS... Have a blast. It's so much fun to get off the beaten track with a little trailer!

Definitely a different choice many would not opt for --- but I am trying to go fridge and freezerless as I have a very old TT (30yrs) that has current wiring safety worries and I don't want to stress it with fridge. We are going to try no power for now and may do solar power only later.

What we are trying to do is come up with alternatives to anything that should be in the fridge. We have found UHT milk and creamer singles, juice boxes, etc. But meat we are going to try dehydrated that you could buy in a camping/hiking/military supply. I took an outdoor cooking class last year and learned how to dehydrate meats. You can Google and find info on this. Certainly not a workable plan for a nice steak or cuts of meat, but you can easily use ground hamburger or small strips of chicken like this. This works too if you don't need meat every night and can do beans and stuff. You can also do fruits and veggies this way - no fridge required! Just soak and poof they are pretty much like fresh or better - great flavor.

Is really important that if you decide to dehydrate stuff yourself you get a good book so you kow how do it safely and store properly. Otherwise, just like other all food prep/storage methods you can get sick. Definitely a lost skill that many used to survive on quite well.

The other thing to think about that we may do, especially if we are in the mood for a nice steak, is to shop daily or have a treat and go out to eat. We pretty much use out TT as an alternative to hotel stays when vacationing since we like having all our own stuff the way we like it and hate the feel and smell of hotel and motels. Don't really head out into the wilderness as we live in the wilderness to begin with. So we are always close to shopping and restaurants when we travel and can go day by day.

When you think about it there is little that we keep in the fridge these days that there are no alternatives too with all the single servings and packets of stuff. Only hitch is cool drinks!!
