We're new to RV'ing, and have made two weekend trips so far. We have a '91 Jayco Qwest.
I've noticed that any time we turn on a faucet, hot or cold, after about 15 seconds a buzzing-type noise begins. It stops a few seconds after we turn the water off. We hook up to city water and do not use the fresh water tank at all. And the water pump is OFF. I wasn't too concerned about the noise, only because I didn't know that it wasn't normal, until we ran into a friend while camping who noticed the noise and asked if we were using the water pump. When we verified that we weren't, he couldn't figure out what the noise could be. The water pump is under the bed, and we lifted the bed and then turned on a faucet to see if that was where the noise was coming from, and it doesn't appear to be. But I don't know what the noise is and if I should be worried!
The noise is very tolerable, and we're not having any problems with pressure or air in the lines or anything else... Just the buzzing noise! Does anybody know what this might be??
Thanks!

Probably the water pressure regulator, sometimes it buzzes or hums at lower city water pressure...not to worry.

My connection on the RV has a anti-siphon valve in it. I can hear mine as well.

I do have a water pressure regulator hooked up at the end of the hose... We weren't sure if we had an internal one or not (I read that some RVs do.) So we bought one. But it's just a little brass piece. It could be the culprit of a buzzing sound??
(We do not have an owner's manual!)

It is actually the back flow preventer at the outside water connection. It is just a pressure ball that opens when hooked up and seals up when the pressure is removed. Some line pressure regulators drop it enough that the ball in the back flow preventer "rattles" creating a buzzing sound. Have someone run water while hooked up and listen at the hose connection on the rig ...bet that's it.....Brian

lv2rom is correct. The fitting where you connect the city water hose to the camper if you look inside you'll see a spring and a ball or disk. This ball or disk can 'chatter' when water pressure pushes it open. I use an air 'blow plug' and an air compressor to winterize mine and the air will REALLY make it chatter. This can be annoying but is 'normal' and won't heart anything.
