I think driving 55 on a mountain 2 lane road is prudent in a large motor home particularly if one is not familiar with the road or driving in the mountains.

Quote: A "mountain two lane road"? 65mph zone? Or do you mean two lanes in each direction? 65mph sounds fast for a two lane mountain road. You sure the slow driver just didn't know the road and was being safe? Was he going downhill and trying to control his speed? After reading these posts, it's obvious that many back east and the mid west, have no conception of "mountain two lane roads with a 65 MPH speed limit". Yes, we have many such roads out west in the mountains and most have passing lanes every few miles, but some don't. Those that want a number, try driving ID-55 from Boise to New Meadows, a winding 125 mile long, 2 lane mountain road with a 65 MPH speed limit. There are some sections where you have to slow down to under 35, but the posted speed limit is 65. Also on 55 there are signs saying that slow traffic must use pull outs when 3 or more vehicles are are behind them and the ISP do enforce it, when they see a violation.

don't use Texas as an example please. those fools drive down the shoulder. they have come up behind me and acted like they expected me to move my rig onto the shoulder so they could pass easier. yep, I'm going to move over $100 K of stuff onto the shoulder so their rusted out pickup truck could get by easier. I don't think so.

ID-55 has very few turnouts from Horseshoe Bend to Cascade though, and LOTS of trafic both ways wanting to do the McCall-Boise run in record time! and many parts of the road are still not 65MPH roadworthy in a MH, or pulling anything.

But the point I was making, is that the posted speed is 65 and it is a 2 lane mountain road, which you verified. I agree that it is not safe for an RV of any kind, to travel anywhere near 65 on the stretch from Horseshoe Bend to Round Valley and again from McCall to New Meadows, which amounts to over 60% of the 125 miles.

Saving fuel just gives me one more excuse to tow at a leisurely 55-57 MPH even on interstates which is what I do. But then I don't really need an excuse, do I, as long as I am within the legal speed limit. If other people get impatient that really isn't my problem. I think I have a right to drive at my comfort level. I know it can create a dangerous situation if others choose to try to pass, etc, but so is driving faster dangerous.

Any vehicle which is accumulating traffic behind them should pull over at the first SAFE opportunity to allow that traffic to pass. I believe that all drivers should drive at a speed which is safe for them but should also allow traffic to pass when possible to do it safely.
Ditto !
Wow! I can hardly believe it. People are complaining about someone following the posted speed limits and maintaining their vehicle in a safe manner. Maybe the issue is not the slower traffic it is you who is in such a hurry, if you need to speed to get there then maybe you need to prepare and allow a little more time to drive. Most(including myself) if they half to speed to get to a destination are distracted and not really paying the required attention to the task at hand, driving. Maybe we need to be reminded that it is a speed limit not a goal.

On edit, to answer the OPs question. There is no unsafe slow speed. The ones who are unsafe are the ones who get impatient following someone who is obeying the laws, and make stupid decisions to pass and save 10 secs.

Now that the west coast folks are up.... you're going to hear from them now.
Info to the east coast and midwest folks: most of the Rocky Mountain states have 65 MPH speed limits on their secondary roads.
Yes, they have curves that you slow for, but then there are long stretches where 65 to 70 MPH is perfectly safe.

Mousefart wrote: Standard rule in driving class is you flash your headlights at a slowpoke in the left lane to signal him to pull over. Works for me 95% of the time (the other 5% I get the one finger salute).
It amazes me how 20 cars will sit behind one of these jerks pissing and moaning, but are afraid they might cause "road rage" if they flash their lights. Flashing your lights is the PROPER and LEGAL way to signal the car in front of you, they will just have to get over it.
Flashing lights in Oregon can be considered as a form of "road rage"
