I have an 06 Vortex TH. I run 91 in all my toys and was wondering(im sure it is ok) if it is ok to run that through the generator. 35 gal fueling station that has a 2gal reserve for the generator. So i can really only run 1 octane in the tank. Thanks. The model escapes me right now, but it is an ONAN i belive

Running a higher octane than needed is just a money waste. The jenny won’t care, and won’t use too much fuel either. The real need for a high octane rating is high compression engines or super/turbocharging. Having too much octane hurts nothing.

Hi,
The generator will run fine on the higher octane fuel.
You might even notice a fuel mileage increase on your tow truck if you use 91 octane on it, because the computers these days try to advance the timing to a point where it gets the best fuel mileage, but will retard the timing and thus less power and fuel economy when the knock sensor detects some in-auditable pinging.
The generator will not know the difference in fuel economy, it will still burn about a gallon per hour (or half gallon at partial loads.)

Why would you put 91 octane fuel in a Vortec that says it should be run on 87 octane? The manufacturer says that it is a waste of money and could harm the engine over time.

Check your vehicle's owners manual for the correct fuel grade and use that. Sometimes a higher grade fuel will cause problems with the vehicle computer and cause the engine to miss, smoke and diesel when shut off.

This is for a generator in a toy hauler trailer. The generator feeds from the fueling station. so 1 grade of gas goes in the tank. Most of my toys use 91. so to avoid bringing cans. i wanted to utilize the 35gal tank on board. Ill try to find the gen manual and check it.

I dont think it matters. I have a gaurdian genny and run it on 91 because my quads require it. Haven't had a problwm yet.

The rule on fuel is this...
If the specs say 87, you can run anything greater than 86 91 is fine, 99 is fine 101 is fine, just don't run 80.
Costs more but won't damage anything
