Well, sometimes the waiting and wondering do pay off.. I started in earnest about 4 months ago looking at different types of RV's and sizes. Could not make up my mind but got close and was just "right there" in buying one.
Well then we had all this stock mess and failures and what not.. Now don't get me wrong, I am not broke and hopefully won't be, But... I am just looking at the long run. MY retirement fund is stable and insured, and my cash is fine. But right not I just don't know what is going to happen , and neither does anyone else. So, I am putting on hold any more shopping for a unit,, I will of course look at the ones I see sitting and think about it. But I am not in the buying market any more..
When things settle down and we finally figure out what "normal" is going to be in say a year or two,, yep, will do something..
now, all that said,, I do see where having a paid for unit sitting here ready to go would of course guarantee me a place to live in in case something really horrible happens, I.E. Remember the Great Depression?
enjoy your trips and I will continue to visit ya'll and learn more each day.

owning an RV might be a good idea. you could always leave it parked if fuel goes too high to buy.

It's too bad that you have to put your life on hold because you're scared about the economy.
Two scenarios:
If it's going to get that bad, you might as well enjoy life while you can.
If you think it's going to turn around in a year or two, why wait? It's a buyer's market now.

As soon as it gets better prices for RV's will go up, as will houses. The long term RVer is smart to buy at low prices that exist now as the USA is loaded with cash ready to put the economy in high gear. The actions to buy the bad debts is proof of the strength of this country. Watch how fast things pick up, they will not get worse. Keep looking, your going to save more now than after it picks up.

Putting off major purchases is the exactly wrong thing to do at this time. If your in good financial position at the present time don't let fear run your decisions. When everyone else is in panic mode don't join the herd. I've been moving 401K cash into mutual funds I've heard chicken little too many times.

You are puting your dream, maybe life on hold when you are OK? You are right, no one knows what is going to happen, but that was true when you ready to buy, and will be true if you are ready to buy sometime in the future.
I never want to be in the position to say, "I wish I had." You are putting yoursef in that position.
I do not believe that the U.S. is declining. I think this current mess will get corrected. This country has been through troubling times, economically, security wise, and other problems as well.
Actually, now is a great time to buy, as prices are depressed. Everything is on sale. People are taking money out of the stock market, I am putting money in! In fact, I am thinking of buying a rental house. Prices are that cheap. I can get real estate 60% off.

First thing I thought of when I read your post is - why did you post this at all? Second thing I thought was - you want us to talk you out of waiting.

When it comes to buying a luxury item for you and your family, it is important to that you be comfortable with the purchase.
If you have reservations there is probably a legitimate reason. It has been my experience that following a conservative path in obtaining "toys" has stood me in good stead over the years.
I would not let general platitudes about "good time to buy" and "enjoying life while you can" put me in a position where a good buy actually made my life and the enjoyment of the toy a miserable experience.
There will always opportunities for the smart shopper and for the near and far future, I suspect, the fuel costs alone will leave a full market of fine used RVs available for the buyer.
Assuming you have a good track record as a consumer of big ticket items--pay attention to the caution signs that are popping up.
