Was looking forward to trying a new place only to have my child get sick enough to cancel the trip. Unfortunately, he didn't get sick 7 days in advance so I lost the ENTIRE fee for the weekend. Funny how some places don't see the value of flexibility and compassion in an economy where people can't afford to throw money away. Wasn't looking for a refund...just a raincheck. How can a place consider themselves a FAMILY CAMPGROUND if they don't understand the plights of a family? Beats me. Guess we won't be trying them. Anyone else have this issue?

I am not familiar with the campground. You must feel strongly enough about your experience to find rv.net, join with the name of the campground + "stinks" and make your one and only post about it! Is a crusade in the works? (either that or you have adopted an alias for drummerboy bashing purposes). Hope you find comfort.

I agree that some concession could have been made. please no flaming, I know the park is in business to make money and they have overhead and so on..... but wouldn't it have made since not to have parted company with a possible future customer in this way?

It too bad that you did not know someone in the area that could have gone by the park and checked on YOUR space. There is a good chance that someone else was using it and paying full price.

I had something like this happen to me in an RV storage yard. I was asking to get a pro-rated months rent so I could change storage areas. No problem with the space, I just found one closer to my house. Well, it was a no go on the pro-rate. I moved the RV mid-month so I would not lose the new space.

A couple of days later I went by the old storage space and.... you guessed it, there was a trailer in MY space. Needless to say, you know what hit the fan. I got my pro-rated refund.

Sorry, long story. I feel better now!

Sounds like a good enough reason to me....at least the poster is not selling an RV like a lot of "first time posters".

Unfortunately, this kind of stuff happens all of the time. I made a hotel reservation in Atlanta, paid with a credit card and was given a late arrival guarantee. My plane was delayed and I never got to the hotel until 1am. Guess what? Not only had they charged my credit card but there wasn't a single hotel room left and they had to find me another place to stay. If you think is hot in Atlanta, you should have been there that night!

If you'll search this forum, you'll find that Drummer Boy is under new management and there have been other campers with problems there since the change. There are several other choices of CGs in the Gettysburg area (we stayed at Artillery Ridge). My rule is that when there are others having problems at some place, it is very likely that I will, too, and I look for alternatives.

I would have to assume that the OP was unable to find the cancellation policy anywhere prior to paying for the stay. I would also have to assume that no other campground in the US has a similar policy. I would have to assume that every other campground in the US would cheerfully violate there published policy and gladly arrange a refund for anybody that gives them a sob story. But unfortunately I would be wrong. I looked at this CG's website and you cannot even make a reservation until you confirm that you have read and understand the cancellation policy. Hopefully the mod. determines that this thread, and this new member, both get the cancellation they well deserve.

A very good point USAFBILL. I was just trying to imagine how drummerboystinks was going to go through the rest of his (her) life on rv.net always having to explain to everyone about the experience with drummerboy so the name would make sense......I guess my humor is a little off this evening. I shall now go back to my normal lurking mode!
