Why are these blatant attempts at bashing even allowed? Read the policy before signing up for a reservation and quit being a victim. Man up and deal with it!

BTW what does a cancellation policy even remotly have to do with wether it is a family orientated campground or not?

I agree that it is important to read the cancellation policy before booking, BUT the link from the bottom of Drummer Boy Camping Resorts reservation page;

"* Please confirm that you have read and agree to abide by
the reservation, cancellation and refund policies which are outlined below.
** No refunds on golf carts.
Resort Rules & Regulations
Reservation & Cancellation Policies

I agree"

gives you this

"Not Found
The requested URL /policy.HTML was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

The link (http://www.drummerboycampresort.com/rules.html) on the Reservation page should be (http://bsquarewebhosting.com/~drummerb/index.php?pr=Reservation_Policy) as they have as a footer on the Rates page.

This is the way it has been since I read the original post days ago, so it is possible the OP tried to read the refund policy and couldn't.

This is why we DON'T go to Drummer Boy Camping Resorts any more! There is to many campground around. Plus they need you to PAY the full amount when you make a reservation. NO WAY!

I've had success with writing a letter to the management in situations like this. It helps to de-emotionalize the issue, and gets you past the front desk person who may not have an option to vary from their written policies. Explain the circulstances logically and ask for their assistance, as you would like to return in the future... although you may have burned some bridges at this point.

Good luck.

We were staying in a National Park and had paid until today, got an emergency call on Monday morning that our son was in a critical care unit. We got a refund for the two days we were not going to be there. Suprise, we did not expect it.

Their policy is what it is.

Life happens.

Their new ownership is not, in my opinion, customer friendly, and is the reason we will never camp there again.

Why in the world would ANYONE pay in advance to stay at this place??????

They'll never get another dime of ours. Their sites are drastically unlevel. The employees were rude to us, and others, and if I recall correctly, a couple of years ago they had at least TWO very different cancellation policies on their website and enforced a THIRD!

Maybe try shooting them a nice letter and see what they can do if anything. Unfortunately when you book and know the policy on cancellations you can't EXPECT a company to make an exception. They do after all have a policy on cancellations for a reason.

Was looking forward to trying a new place only to have my child get sick enough to cancel the trip. Unfortunately, he didn't get sick 7 days in advance so I lost the ENTIRE fee for the weekend. Funny how some places don't see the value of flexibility and compassion in an economy where people can't afford to throw money away. Wasn't looking for a refund...just a raincheck. How can a place consider themselves a FAMILY CAMPGROUND if they don't understand the plights of a family? Beats me. Guess we won't be trying them. Anyone else have this issue?

I have read through this entire thread and wonder why there is such turmoil in a lot of the comments. Contracts are contracts and if management decides to enforce the contract then that is what it is. If they make a concession, then that is all well and good also. My experience has spanned the gambit when it comes to similar situations.

I was in the KOA at Rodanthe when my dad turned a tractor over on him and I had to leave early. The policy was "no refunds" for early departure other than mandatory evacuations. When I went to the office to inform them that I had to leave two days early and the reason for leaving, they refunded the two days and wished me well. I did not ask for a refund nor did I expect one due to the fact that I understood the refund policy up front.

I had campground reservations for March, April and May of this year when I had to have heart bypass surgery in March and so I had to cancel all the trips at the time. The March trip was canceled and the campground waived the $5 cancellation fee when I told them why I would be unable to make it. The April trip was canceled and the campground refunded the deposit except for the $10 fee that I agreed to when I made the reservation.

The only one that rubbed me the wrong way was the cancellation at a WV state park for the May trip. They kept the $5 processing fee as well as the first night camping fee. When the state park employee informed me about the cancellation policy, I told him that I knew what the policy was and I thought it was criminal since my tax dollars were paying for the park in the first place but I didn't belabor the point and he laughed and said I know what you mean.

My point is, if you are informed about the various cancellation policies out there when you make the reservation, why complain when they hold you to the terms of the contract. I understand that things happen but gosh to go to such lengths to complain seems a bit extreme to me. If you do not like the cancellation policy, don't go there. If you agree to the policy and they make a concession if something happens, count your blessings. If not, do what you agreed to do and get on with life.
