This will be our first year to snowbird.
We are looking for a campground in the RGV. We would like to find a campground that has activities such as suggested field trips, hiking trails not too far away, pot lucks. We DON'T golf. An exercise room would be nice, but not necessary. We need internet service and we would like cable TV.
Are there any clean campgrounds with reasonable prices?

Most of the campgrounds in the RGV are reasonably priced. Check out Palm Gardens, Park Place, in Harlingen. First Colony in San Benito is nice, all of these are about 30 miles to S. Padre. I can't think of the name of 2 of the parks in Mission we are thinking of staying at, but lots of nice parks in Mission.

Hi Don and Carolyn, we are staying at the Bentsen Grove resort in Mission Tx. Dec to March. Looked at a lot of the camp ground and called and talked with them, I got the best answers and friendly information from Bentsen Grove than anywhere else. We have never been there so don't know any of this first hand. I was happy with their answers I booked a spot.

Actually, there are over 500 parks between Bronwville & McAllen/Mission. If you want to email me your snail mail addy, I will send you a copy of the 2007=08 RGV RV Park guide. It lists almost all of them, their amenities, location, etc. You can then ask here about the ones you are most interested in &/or call them directly for info.

Bentsenpalm Villiage is a beautiful park HOWEVER, unless you made reservations LAST winter, forget it. I had some friends that wanted to stay there and called last March and they were already booked up for this winter.

We are booked here for December thru February. We applied for a booking last March and were confirmed in late May as there was a booking cancellation. As I understand, most reservations for new customers are confirmed in September.

With around 500 parks in the Rio Grande Valley my best advice is to just come down, rent a spot for a week & visit as many parks as you can to find what you like. Most parks will have vacancies. A few of of the top rated parks will be full but they may have cancelations. Personally I like the weather better in the central valley. Warmer, less wind, less rain & less fog. The area from Donna to Mission. The Mission area alone has about 80 RV Parks.

We would like to find a RV Park on the ocean. We don't golf but like to walk on the beach every day. Any parks fit this need in South Texas? We are currently in Kilgore Texas (Piney Woods area) and look forward to moving down south in January.
