I think the answer is no but I'll ask anyway. Is there such a thing as a DVR that one could use on a RV Park's cable system or on over the signals?
We have a DirecTV DVR in the MH and at home we use TiVO and now we can't stand to watch live TV. When we're away from our local satellite footprint we like to watch cooking and travel programs on PBS but these are over the air and cannot record them.
I know, I could get a VCR at a garage sale, but that is so low tech
Is there such a DVR? Thanks, Steve

I have a pioneer at home that would do that very well.. It is basically a digital VCR, only instead of Video Tape it uses DVD-RW (or -r) Works well, Just like a VCR only digital
I also have a TV-Tuner adapter for my computer These come in both HD/Digital and Analog (SD) only.. (Mine is sd) and that also does the same job.. When it works.. Did not work properly this evening (I had to manually start & stop so we lost one show I wanted to snag for wife.. Of course she does not know so no problem)
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

The easiest way would be to find a DVD recorder which can use DVD-RAM, which will allow it to operate exactly like a DVR (you can record, pause live, rewind live, etc.).
Or, you could build a small dedicated computer and put MythTV or Freevo (not nearly as easy as the DVD solution), or even build a computer and download the Tivo source code.

I bought a DVR several years ago that records on both its internal hard drive and a removeable DVD. I love it.

Yup!
Best way to go. We've had one for 3 yrs now and it works great. You copy anything that comes over air or cable. If you use regular DVD-R you can close the session and play it on any DVD player or PC. One DVD can hold 6 hrs of viewable programing. You can bulk buy DVD at a cost of 25 cents each.

when i find it, i'm buying it. most models are too DEEP front to back to fit where i need to put it

Phillips/Magnavox sells a DVR with a 80gb hard drive. Sells at Sam's Club and some Wal-Marts for around $225. I love mine. Record to the hard drive if you just want to watch a program once, or to a DVD if you want to save it.

I have been trying to find out for some time if there was a DVR I could use without a subscription service. Is that what I'm hearing you say?
