Now now...I didn't say the coach was THAT old! We bought it in 2007 USED because it had 300 miles on it. We are the second owners...I don't expect Four Winds to cover everything, but...it's not that old! It had 200 miles on it from the factory, and some guy owned it - took it on one trip and traded it in! (thats the story)
Yes...we saved $ because it was used...but does it have to fall apart because the seams need CONSTANT resealing??!
It has been a learning experience, and I appreciate all comments
Just an FYI for anyone else who has had this happen.

The real lessons here are:

1. Buyer beware. Water leaks of any sort can be insidious. Many owners will deliberately hide any sign of water damage even though they may know about it, thus passing the problem on to the next owner. I am not saying this is the case here, but without a warranty you really are taking your chances.

2. Second owners normally get no (zero - zilch - nada) warranty. Jayco (and maybe some others) have a two-year warranty that is transferable to a second owner for a fee - there is a really good reason why that's benefit, as can be seen here.

Am I the only one who thinks Stony Thornburg was a little heavy on the use of commas in his reply?

Come on people. You expect the manufacturerer to warrant its product to the 2d, maybe 3d and 4th owners? .

Uh - yes!! What in the world does the number of owners have to do with it? Does any auto manufacturer limit the warranty to the original owner? Seems ridiculous. Interested enough to make the journey to the RV garage at 10:30 pm to check the Winnebago warranty. Only one year on the entire coach (longer on delamination and the roof), but didn't see anywhere where it was limited to one owner. Sure doesn't seem unreasonable to expect a three year warranty that seems to be the minimum offered by auto manufacturers.

I agree that it isn't unreasonable to think they COULD warranty it to subsequent owners.....but the point is, they don't and it's clearly stated in their documentation.

I think is sucks that this guys rig is having these problems already. However, the response he got from Four Winds does not seem that unreasonable. Stony Thornburg did not have any photos to review and simply had the OP's email and what was done through the dealer.

Their warranty is quite clear. I too believe it would be good customer service to help this guy out, but with the market as it is, they are probably walking a thin line right now. According to the news I read, Thor (Four Winds parent company) had a 90% drop in profit this year. That's no small change and I'd bet they are cutting expenses at every corner...including warranty claims.

That certainly use to be common. Can't say with newer vehicles.

Well...there it is in the owner's manual:
"All exterior seals should be checked and resealed at least every 6 months".

If I were in the market for a new MH THAT would eliminate them from my list. And, I use to think they were a good brand. Not any more...

My experience with them was opposite. They covered a delamination problem by replacing both walls. I had documented a leak problem with the dealer and the manufacturer a month after purchase (new), and when the walls delaminated they replaced the entire walls free of charge when the unit was 3 years old.

Out of curiosity, do they mention in their brochures that the warranty is for the first owner only and not transferable?

OH, does the chassis manufacturer (Ford or CM) also limit the warranty to the first owner?

Really, I don't recall many (well, any) who restricted the warranty. Just about every vehicle we've owned has had a warranty that went with the vehicle for the term specified.
