We are currently in a class C we have had a pop-up then the C. After traveling xcntry this summer we are in debt due to the gas we used. It was ridiculous how much it cost. Then the air conditioner compressor went and therefore the rv had to be towed. What a wonderful end to our vacation. Our thoughts are if we had an rv the didn't have a motor, we would have less problems (duh!) and maybe the gas would be less overall. However I do want a living area and a full bathroom. I am concerned about the lack of a generator. And then there is the tow vehicle. We currently tow a jeep, which would not tow anything of size, so we figure to sell the jeep and get a TT or Hybrid TT because my hubby misses the pop up and previous to the a tent. There are so many TT out there I am stymied. Can anyone help us? We also want to sell the C, the dealer offered us pittance for it.

One thought: if you are at/near the end of your camping season, you may want to consider holding on to the C until next year and trying to trade it in on a trailer or PUP. Right now credit is very tight & difficult to get, should you need that (and should your dealer need it - he's probably thinking he'll have difficulty selling the C). The economy might possibly be better next year (or possibly worse - no one knows!)
After having had an older C years ago, and having had it constantly being repaired, we opted for a PUP (our first), then HTT, and now TT. Convenient as motorhomes are, I agree that it's less expensive to some extent, and a whole lot more convenient, to have EITHER your vehicle or your "home" out of commission for repairs, instead of having both at once unavailable. Just our opinion, though.

We are afraid the resale price of the C will go down a lot if we wait a year. The dealer was going to trade the c for the hybridtt and give us 1500. But that is like 19000 less than KBB. Maybe you are correct we should wait, we have a better chance of selling it at the beginning of the spring next year, when the camping season begins.

I'd say that if you're trading your C for a trailer you're probably not going to see much gain in MPG. Your C probably gets pretty "decent" mileage as it is. Once you load up your trailer and TV with all the weight you may find that you're getting less MPG than you were with the C. With my setup I get between 8 and 10 MPG and you'll find very few that will report more than about 15mpg with a loaded trailer. Even with a diesel you may find things are close.

You're looking to spend dollars to save pennies?
Before you make a move, write down all the numbers on the costs of buying a new TV and TT, even after you sell the jeep and C. Then, figure out how much gas that would buy for your current setup.
Trading-in is, generally, not a money-saving move. If you want to trade for floorplan, lifestyle, etc., that's legitimate. But, I'd be surprised if you'll save any money with all of this trading.

You think you are in debt because of the gas you burned, just wait to you see how much more you will be in debt when you trade in your motor home.
You are being foolish with your pennies. Keep what you got and enjoy it. Your jeep is not a good tow vehicle, so you would need a new tow vehicle and then a new trailer.

I also think that depends on on what you get for your next tow vehicle since it will be bigger to tow a trailer it will be getting 15 or 18 mpg everyday. Will these tow vehcile also be an everyday driver? This way the motorhome itself gets 8mpg only when you use it in comparrsion to getting a trailer and a bigger vehicle to tow the trailer where you are getting 15 mpg everyday. That is how I made my decision to keep my gas hog Class C around. My everyday drivers are two used Honda Accords. I then tow one of the Accords when camping. So, I am only getting 8 mpg when driving the C then 30 mpg when not.

We just spent $1600 on fuel for a trip to the Yellowstone area from Chicago. We didn't have to go that far but we figure it would be the first and last time for such a trip so we went for it.
To save gas you don't have to drive cross country next season. How about some trips closer to home. In short, keep the C. Possibly stop towing the jeep and get a couple of Dahon Bicycles. I don't understand why it is necessary to have a toad with a C which can be `unhitched' so easily to drive it to WalMart.

First of al, we commute together to work, so we only use the jeep for towing behind the C. Then this summer we got 5.2 mpg on the C. So I figure we trade in the C, the jeep and an suv, get a TV and a TT. We will make out better. And I doubt I will want to go cross country again so soon. We did it twice and this last time was hell. The a/c went and we had to leave it in PA. 3 years ago the transmission went and we were stuck in Mitchell SD for a week (home of the corn palace , Walmart and Cabellas). I don't know. But even with selling the other stuff we should come out with a few dollars in our packets. But as I said, I am concerned about not having a generator. My dream wouold be to get an A, but we are just teachers and do not make enough to support the gas of an A.
