I use headphones with my CB because the DW hates to listen to the 'stuff' that comes from the trucker's mouths. Consequently, I hear all kinds of rackets from 12V plug-in inverter that runs my laptop/mapping program, the AC condensor fan when it cycles on and the windshield wipers as they move back and forth. Recently I bought a filter (I've been thru all kinds of filters over the years) from a CB shop that plugs into the 12V (2-wire power for the CB)--but no luck there. The only success that I've ever had came from inserting a capacitor into the wires to and from and the AC condensor to get rid of that noise. It actually worked! An electronic engineer had told the tech at Freightliner about this, but I could never find the guy to delve into the subject.
My question:Is there ANYTHING new out there to combat RFI? The sounds are actually being broadcast to the CB antenna I'm told. This is the 3rd coach that I've had trouble with. On one occasion, the CB was wired direct to another battery. Nothing accomplished. Another antenna for the CB was placed at the rear roof of the coach. Same story. Hope one of you has an answer. Thanks.

The only way to properly shield against GSM interference (that coming from your cell phone) is to actually shield the electronics of the CB head unit. If you can wrap a piece of heavy aluminum foil (only as a test) around the head unit making sure to vent properly then you'll see what I mean. The other interferrence you're resolving by putting electronics in line with the power for the head unit is that which is generated by the electronics of the vehicle itself.. usually the alternator. Used to be a big problem in the early days of CB but most of the auto manufactures made changes in automotive electroncs that using the extra diodes and such wasn't needed anymore. A higher quality CB may be in order as well that already has the shielding in place.

Well.. some of that will respond to a brute force filter in the power lead

Some of it won't.. I tell people MSW inverters make a hash of AM radios

CB is AM.. What more can I say about it.

I use a dc-dc converter for my laptop when in the rig run it direct off 12 volts
