Once in a while I check in here to read items as we head to B C every couple years or so.

I was reminded of our stay at this "gem" It is a WalMart with hookups. We were supposed to be there 5 nights and left early. Staff was surly on top of it. And RULES that I have never seen before.

Do NOT recommend it unless absolutely necessary.

I wondered about that park as we drove by this past week. Looked like a parking lot with a very high fence around it. But had numerous huge Class As parked in the parking lot.

We were on a sightseeing drive while slumming it at Haynes Point Provincial Park campground in Osoyoos, some miles south of Desert Gem. Now, HAYNES POINT is one unique little park! Campers sit out on the end of a looooooong point surrounded by water, as shown on this Google map. I'll post some pictures of this campground later this week.

hey sue.t you want to know the really bad, ugly thing about Haynes Point? THE most popular campsite in BC, according to the stats....it closes right about now. The operator's contract concludes and the gates slam shut until next year. Isn't that the damndest thing you ever heard of?

Hey up in BC, how are things there? Just in the mid 90's here today!

I just want to let you know that we spent 3 weeks in BC in 2007 and had a great time. And were treated sooooooo well by you Canadians - except for Desert Gem.

Just loved it up there and hope to return again soon.

No doubt ... the info centre in Princeton told us that they don't recommend people attempt to stay there in the summer as it is so very busy. During the summer, apparently, if you aren't waiting for someone to vacate a site first thing in the morning, you aren't going to get a spot.

We arrived Thursday September 18th at about 3:30 p.m. There were five waterfront spots available, plus many of the "non" waterfront sites. And some of the interior sites stayed unoccupied that night.

Lovely spot, and very unique for provincial park camping.
Also, only a few kilometers from the US border ... I think I measured 2 km by water.

I had started to look for places in that area for when return. Unfortunately, Haynes Point will not work for us - size of sites and hookup issues - so I had looked at Nk'mip. What can you tell me about that one?

What time of year are you asking about? Nk'mip is well thought of. I've been and I suppppoooossse....I am spoiled by Haynes. I am not a fan of cheek by jowl camping, so avoid the 'normal' rv camps. Still, if you can't do Haynes Point, Nk'mip will fill your needs.

It would be in the summer. After many years of tent camping my DW is spoiled and likes the hookups. Agreed, sometimes private parks are "a little close" but can't have everything! BTW, our trip to BC in 2007 was Radium Hot Springs (took a day trip up to Banff - had been there 4 times before), Revelstoke, Cache Creek, Hope and Oliver. It was an enjoyable loop - some places we would go back to; others not. But that is the same on most any trip I think. Did a lot of day trips out of each place.

Wow Sue:- I wish we had known about Haynes Point. We were at Summerland that weekend. We stayed at The Pleasantview Motel in summerland. It's small, quiet, and cheap ($ 30.00 with all the hookups) it's a bit tight - we are 35ft and were up against the fence and still poking out a bit.

We picked up our new trailer in Kelowna and then did a bunch of wine tours. We like the fall down there and had a ball. We plan on going down every september from now on to do some wine tourism. So Haynes point is going to be on the list for next year. Thanks for the tip.

Lauren - FYI right now in Prince George it is about 35 in the morning and 65 to 70 during a good day. We had frost the other day so I winterized the trailer last weekend. I wish we could be heading your way for the winter but that's a year or two away. Rv'ing here is done for the year. Our next trip will be the first weekend in May come snow or sun.

cheers
Chris

sue.t reservations are the only way to get into Haynes, unless one has horseshoes in various body cavities. Being at the gate for morning departures, waiting to see if there's a spot available is a great way to ruin a day. I mean..the Osoyoos heat and sitting there on the blacktop...recipe for unhappinessx2.

BUT..it is one of the nicest spots ever...sitting on the waters edge, I like facing n/w so I can see the city lights, man oh man...much of my mis-directed youth was spent there. Back then, no reservations...people handed off the site from one week to the next...group to group. Families or friends..and woe betide the stranger who managed to get in under the radar and grab one of 'the' sites. Which, of course, made it all the more entertaining. After all, that's how everyone got their start up there.

And let us not forget the narrow spit of land? that has even more narrowness to it, just under the water, that meets that same narrow under water finger from the other side, except for maybe 4? feet of navigable water. It was always the thing that would silence the entire camp at night....hear an outboard just screaming down the lake, comin...comin...comin...BANG...one wrecked prop and maybe lower leg. Then you have to run down to the end to ensure all are okay and then wait for the next fool.
