Just as I remembered it every year. Just in time for the Anchorage Policeman's Ball ( if they still do it) the snow falls around the 9th of every October. This year is no different. What global warming?

Not only the snow, but the cold has hit the Interior. It was -2°F this morning in Fairbanks and -4°F in Nenana according to the weather reports. Winter time will be there until the January thaw for a week or so and then the bottom will fall out of the thermometer. LOL
Don't mind being in Florida about this time of year. LOL
Frank, I really like the improvement in the web cameras you referenced. Many of them around the state are somewhat fuzzy but those Anchorage ones are sharp. You can even see the small planes on the taxi way at Merrill Field on one of them.

The one in the link is the Sheraton Hotel and the "megaview" that lines up on Merrill Field. I actually was able to watch a plane take off last week by refreshing at the right time. I got it in two frames.
Another one is from the Denali Towers and shows the Sears Mall on Seward Hwy and No. Lights Blvd. Fred Meyers is cross the street. Every time I look at the Sears Mall I remember what a friend told me. He has a chance to buy that land in the late 50s for about $.25 an acre! He refused thinking and saying, " NO one will want that swamp land!" That was when "C" street only went as far as 9th Avenue with plans to extend it to 15th. I still laugh at that one.
When I was...... oh well, there are so many stories..
I go back and check the web cams regularly. Glad you like them.

Don't forget the ultra-high property taxes, bugs, rain, snow etc. You people stay away, it's awful up here!!!! Seriously, the roads are bad, people smell funny in the theatre when they thaw out, the bugs are horrific, you get to shovel all your dog poop at one time in the spring, stand in line thirty deep to get your studded winter tires put on, have to wear spikeys so you don't bust your buns , break down on the road and freeze to death, pay thirty dollars to feed your family at a fast food joint, pay $6 a for a gallon of milk, $3 for a tomato, $10 for a florescent light bulb, be told over and over again that your favorite online vendor doesn't ship to Alaksa, $5 a gallon for diesel when it's oozing out of the freakin' ground, I could go on and on.
You can buy a gun at the grocery store, see a bull moose in your front yard, a bald eagle flying by your window, take your bicycle to the creek to fish the salmon, go hike a glacier and be home for dinner, drive until you see no one else, walk ten minutes out of town and run from a griz, be guaranteed a white Christmas, well, Thanksgiving, Halloween, New Year, Spring Break AND Easter for that matter!

Drove the 5th whl. up in 08 and enjoyed every minute{stayed June 1-July 1},didn't care for the Never gets Dark thing.Actually saw more wildlife on the way up through BC and the Yukon--Except Denali,which is the biggest zoo I'll ever be in.Zoo because you can't hunt there.BIGGEST Mountains you'll ever see-but you can only get to the top hiking or in a plane unfortunately.So many mountains we got a little burnt out lookin at em.Overwhelmed is the word we used alot.The trip through Canada up and back is incredible Too!Take your time and leave extra days in case of weather you don't want to drive in.Don't even think you can see the real Alaska the first time you visit unless you go for about 6 months and take alot of money-you have to fly to alot of places cause they don't have that many roads and its so big that you'll go through different climates.I couldn't live there due to the severe cold{arthuritis}and the constant night time in the winter would drive me nuts.We did meet some of the nicest people on the planet up there though.The thing we liked the most--1/2 hour from any city and there are no crowds whatsoever-couple people here or there and no traffic.Price of our 3 month trip--ALOT,but the memories...Priceless !!

I agree with ever reply. They all said it so well. I will add that the wild life was so special for us. We took a small boat and put it in the Valdez Bay. We got so close to Sea Lions feeding on salmon that we could hear them snorting or blowing when they surfaced. They were within 20ft. We saw Sea otters floating on their backs looking so cute. We saw schools of salmon so thick it looked like a wave in the water when they swam. We saw Bears feeding on salmon at Hyder and Brooks Lodge in the Katmai Nat Park. We saw the largest Float Plane base in the world in Anchorage. We caught Salmon from the Keni River and Halibut from the Cook Inlet .
We spent nights boondocking along the way and would be totally by ourselfs. We saw so much more but the real fun was the adventure itself.
