HI, I am considering renting an RV at some point this winter and head South until I sun and warm weather (I'm from Minneapolis, MN).
It seems like all will be winterized by then, but I have no idea.
I eventually will want a pop-up trailer because weight limitations of my Toyota RAV4, and cost. Plus I am a retired Archaeologist and probably spent one third of my adult life living in a tent out in the bush. So I figure I don't need real extravagence vs cost in my pop-up.
I am wondering if I head south with my RAV4 it might be different in getting a rental.
Any advice would be apreciated.

For what the rent will cost you I suspect you could almost buy used.
2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. Thanks RvnDave! I kind of was thinking the same thing, and I would imagine now would be a good time.
I am going about 5 hours West this Thursday to Sunday to world famous, Milbank, SD.
I wonder if it would be worth trying a trial run and figure out what I want.

I'm even wondering if popups are for rent; I have never seen one with `Cruise America' printed on the side.
Oops, just found popuprental.com by searching `pop up rental' on Google.

Rent one for the up coming trip so you will have an idea what you want. Check used ones in your area to see if you can find what you want, if you can't find anything. I'm sure that driving South when you get to an area if it has any large city in the area you should be able to find a pop up to rent. Go on line to cities near where you want to camp and look at the areas yellow pages.
May even find used ones in your south area to buy.

Thanks everybody! I've been doing so research and I found out my best friend used to work with someone who rents, guess what? RVS and one which is a 10 foot Fleetwood they rent out.
I've looked at different brands and I really like the Jayco Jay series for it's size and price. I would get a smaller one just because the size of my RAV4 and the price. Seems like a re-occuring theme here.
Anyway it seems like every place is trying to get rid of the 2008s quite badly (I am not sure what the fair price is) but I would not care if I got a year or couple year old one that was kept well.
Does anyone have strong feelings about the Jayco Jay series? I still might be able to find one for rent yet before Thursday.
Thanks again,
Scott

Good luck on whatever you decide to do. I would definitely not rent a MH unless you were maybe planning on buying one. But since you are going the popup route, you could also look on Craigslist as I have seen some for rent in my area.
Also, I believe there is a trailer called travel manor that is a hardsided lift up trailer. It may weigh more that you will be able to tow though.

Dick,
It's a good business around us here in Montreal. I used to rent them years ago and it wasn't all that expensive at the time. We would get it 'unfurnished' and bring all our own camping gear. The prices can escalate quite quickly if you use the rental stuff, (pot, pans, dishes, camp stove, utensils etc...).

Military Rec Services use to rent popups, but you had to be active duty military. They did not have anything special printed on the side.
