Can I get feedback from those who have towed a Mini Cooper?
I was told by a BMW dealership that no mini was towable.

Are there any modifications needed?
What baseplate have you used?
How much was the baseplate w/installation?

I once towed a small car. I had trouble getting into and out of gas station.
I've never seen one towed, but have seen one on a trailer.

Can not tow the automatic. No kits available, no pumps available.

Are there any modifications needed?

No.
2008 Clubman, Stick shift. MINI USA does a general cya and says no, no technical reason not to tow a MINI. Late 07 and 08 models do not have locking steering column, just hook up, put in neutral, release brake and tow.

What baseplate have you used?

Roadmaster. Models other than an S require more triming of bumper cover. Same baseplate fits all frames.

How much was the baseplate w/installation?

Don't remember cost, same as other baseplates, bought from dealer on ebay. Installed it myself, not a big deal. Check Roadmasters web site for installation instructions. Great car to tow, weight is only 2200 lbs for the Clubman, Coupe would be less. You will get a lot of "You ain't from around here" comments as you tour the Midwest.

To add to Jim Ray's post, here are the pictures I took while he did the installation. We tow our 2008 MINI Clubman with a Winnebago.

We have a roadmaster base plate on our 2006 Mini S 6 speed. It needed no other modifications. We towed it to Alaska and back with no problems other than a chipped windshield. We now have a cover for the complete front end from Coastline Cover . Great pictures aprilwhine.

I tow a 2004 Mini Cooper S using a Blue Ox base plate and tow bar. I have towed it more than 10000 miles. It is a great car to tow.

I also use the Coastline Cover. The base plate install and wiring install was maybe $200. I got a separate wiring kit from Blue Ox. I don't recommend splicing into the Min's wiring.

who did the install for you? I just got a staggering quote of $424 for install of the base plate alone (did not include the quote). They wanted an additional $212 for wiring.

I have a friend who has a German car repair business. I was wrong about the charge. It was $500 for base plate install, wiring and an alignment.
(possibly an oil change also).
Sorry.
