There is a shopping center at Exit 6 of I-66 in Front Royal, VA. There is a Cracker Barrel, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Applebee's and several small restaurants. We stopped there Wednesday night on our way back north.
There are no signs in the parking lot forbidding overnight parking. We pulled in next to 3 tractor/trailers. We went into Walmart for supplies and were told we could stay overnight. Then we went to Applebee's for dinner. After we spent our money, we went back to the coach and fell asleep around 9 pm. Now there was one tractor/trailer, us and 2 more Class A RVs. I know one of the RV group went to dinner at a small restaurant and the tractor/trailer driver came out of Walmart with bags.
At 10:15 pm the security guard knocked on our door and said the owner of the parking lot did not want overnight parking and we were told to move along.
How nice of them to take our money, tell us it was okay to stay and then wake all of us up and tell us to leave. Simple signs in the parking lot would save a lot of trouble. We wouldn't stop and spend money and the security guard would have a lot less work to do.
It is a beautiful shopping area and I'm disappointed the owner doesn't want my hard earned money. I won't be stopping there to spend anything again!

This is the first time I've ever heard of a security guard contradicting the information given out by the WalMart employees. Are you sure you were in the WalMart parking area?

The Walmart guide that I use states that overnight parking is allowed. It may be as the above poster stated. Sometimes, the businesses ajoining Walmart may have parking lots that join and it would be hard to tell the boundry lines.
I think that I would have went back inside Walmart and confirm that Parking was allowed and where to park. I always like to ask where to park. This way I respect their rules.

Who did the security guard work for? Walmart or the Parking Lot owner? Of course, I could see a Walmart Manager telling you "it's fine with me!"....since he may be assuming that you may or may not be told to leave.
But, I also agree with you, that it should have been posted. Did you consider talking with the manager after the guard came by?
Sorry you had a bad experience.

So, all of Front Royal should be avoided because of this? Seems extreme.

I was there on 9/23. You can either park in the Cracker Barrel parking lot or on the sides or rear of the Walmart building. Front Royal is RV friendly and always has been because it is the northern entrance to the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive.

I live about 3 miles away. You can park there but they need to keep all the trucks out. there is a truckstop across the street. You have to park inthe walmart lot or so I have been told or the Cracker barrel lot not the one between them. I have seen many RVs there but in thelast few weeks it has been full of 18 wheelers. It is a big truck bypass to avoid the scale on I 81.

Doesn't matter what store management says. The leasing company that owns the property sets the rules once off the store sidewalk. Been there, done that, checked into the legal side of it.

Alot of these new shopping centers the owner of the center makes the parking lots so thin that they do not want any more heavy traffic then necessary--the one in Altoona Pa did not want to let city buses drop people off at WM's door--they wanted to have passengers dropped off out by the hwy and it was a good 3 football fields walk--WM did some negotiating and got that changed. So yes it is up to the shopping center owner if you are allowed to park there
