Have a 93 23' Montoya and a E350 with a 460 V8. While driving on the overpass thru Austin,TX experienced loss of power, lot of chugging along, engine stall, restart, no power, backfire, stall etc. Managed to restart, chug and stall my away across 3 lanes and down into the University area off MLK Blvd where I now sit. After it cools down it will idle fine and then drive for 100' and start the dance all over again. Can anyone recommend a solution and/or a RV repair or Ford Dealer in Austin. I'll need a tow to get anywhere at this point...and I can't stay where I'm currently parked. Thx.

Could be a clogged fuel filter. It would be worth time to get one and install yourself.

I know you are talking about a ford, but my Chevy had that problem and it was the module inside the distributor that was bad, had a heck of a time getting it to work, finally had to put in a new distributor to get the right fix. how you find out what is wrong, darn near drove me to drink

Fuel filter sounds good but I couldn't connect that possibility with backfiring, and a special tool is required to change the filter which I of course do not have. If I am wrong about fuel starvation and backfiring please let me know. I've just put in a call to Fleet Maintenance of Texas and will probably get a tow to their facility. Not a happy camper.

Have You checked Spark Plug Wires? I would look at them while the Engine is Running "In The Dark" to see if You have some Cross Firing!

I recall one day driving out east.. On the way home one of our caravan would run for like 2 miles then die.. O2 sensor had to be replaced.

The fact it is can be many things.. Fuel and air filters are on my top suspect list
