Chris,

I did not meant for my post to sound critical of your efforts. I only wanted everyone to understand a fact about self-selecting surverys. That fact would not change even if the Open Roads Forum's software did have a polling feature. Such a poll would still be self-selecting.

Not sounding sarcastic on my part, I would never expect any science to come of it. But all the previous threads are someone's version of a story of some sort, or their personal experience. Then the thread gets attacked by my friend BBB and before you know it the thread is closed and nothing useful comes out of it.

My only effort is to show that of those who frequent this site, here are the number of rvers who have read this post and voted. From this we can say X number of people had an rving experience and a percentage of those experiences were either positive or negative.

Maybe insurance companies who insure rvers or someone else tracks these negative events but I haven't found them so far or at least they have not been offered when I have asked.

We are living in difficult times on both sides of the border. If people can come here to enjoy themselves for the Winter with the peace of mind knowing the overall majority of rvers in Mexico have had safe and pleasurable experiences than it adds in the decision-making process.

People can make what they want of the numbers, for me it is interesting to see the numbers and the comments that people have had. One of the most interesting results is that this thread has not been trolled yet and we know from those that participate here, no one has been murdered .

Maybe Open Roads can produce a survey or statistics that would be of more value but at this time this is all I can produce and no one else seems to have done it putting the fear mongers at bay. Besides, it keeps me busy .

Add me to the list "no victim" in 10 years and looking forward to number 11.

Over 30 years of worldwide travel & I'm still intact.

Mexico RV Travel, 21 years & other than Pemex attendants, NO incidents and we leave a lot of stuff out in the open & unlocked.

I've had a few incidents around the globe but nothing that leaving on the next flight out of the country didn't cure.

In a survey last week by RvTravel, the question was asked Have you ever had anything stolen from your RV or campsite?.

An amazing 25% of 1500 people surveyed answered yes.

If you haven't taken my survey regarding RV crime in Mexico you still have two days left. So far no one has reported themselves as being murdered. Good news.

Close though. I got shot at by a mexican we think was from Michiocan, that was in Las Vegas when I was at work but I should get half credit no?

It's funny, and not to jeopardize my own thread, but I have read more on the forum of late of rvs being stolen, Canadian rvers being beaten and an rver being shot in Texas. Makes one wonder where all the trouble really is. Maybe my poll should have been directed at rvers in countries other than Mexico (politically correct)?

In 7 trips SOB, we had one theft... odd circumstances.
Returning last spring from the Yucantan, we were on the long road from Chetumal heading towards Palenque. At a hiway intersection in the middle of no where, we were stopped at a military checkpoint. When they asked to look in our trailer, I went back and discovered that I had broken a spring on the trailer, and as I stood there shaking my head, a young soldier went inside. Then another soldier closed the door and made a "shush" as though we were playing a game and going to drive off and leave him inside. He was in there for just a minute as I tried to think of repair options. I soon opened the door and the young soldier came out.
The group of young soldiers then directed us over to a spot were I could leave the trailer, and helped me find an old fellow from the small restaurant across the road who could guide us to find a mechanic and parts.
In short, three hours later, we had a new spring on the trailer, and we were on our way.
The next morning, my wife discovered a pair of gold hoop earrings missing from her bedside.
So by being distracted by our mechanical problem, we had broken a rule of common sense -- to always supervise an indoor inspection. Oh well, I hope his girlfriend or mother appreciates them.
Of course we were upset by the loss, but at the same time, reassured that nearly all who we meet in Mexico are very helpful to a gringo in need.

It wasn't the largest group of voters, but the poll closes in one hour so here are the results. What do they mean? I think those that frequent the Rving Mexico Forum and are regular contributors voted on the blog. There are others who read the blog obviously so take it all for what it's worth. The good news is it appears no one has been murdered and no one ever made a comment on the blog about an attack on rvers either first-hand or word of mouth.

So where are the rv crime victims? I still can't get my hands on all those first-hand attacks. If anyone can guide me or the forum to a website that has the statistics it would really be appreciated. We will be going to Veracruz for two or three weeks in December.

Have you been a victim of one of the following crimes while rving in Mexico?

Yes. Theft of RV 0 (0%)

Yes. Theft of RV/TV items 6 (7%)

Yes. Assault, beating, or use of weapon 0 (0%)

Yes. "Forced" to pay a bribe 9 (11%)

Yes. Kidnapping. 0 (0%)

Yes. Murder. 0 (0%)

No. Never a victim of RV crime in Mexico 63 (82%)
