My husband and I are planning on going to Charleston very soon just for a 2 day visit. We went to Charleston last year in May and enjoyed it very much. We went with my parents who are elderly, but that experience was one of the best they ever had. This time, we're going alone. How will Charleston be in October?

The first time we went, we saw Boone Plantation, did a horse and buggy tour of the City, saw Ft. Sumpter and walked a little around the town (not much because my mother has chronic leg pain so we took it easy on her). What else would be the best use of our limited time there? Also, we ate at a fantastic seafood place, but I forgot the name. That is also something we seek out, GREAT places to eat and we will focus on seafood there. Any suggestions on that as well?

Thanks for anything you can offer!

The summer heat finally broke earlier this week. Temps are now running in the low 80s dipping down to the mid 60s at night. IMO, just about perfect for anything but swimming.

The summer crowds have gone so the sightseeing is easier and relaxing now.

Things you may have missed in your May trip that I would highly recommend.

Take a boat over to Fort Sumter and explore the fort while enjoying the views of Charleston. Make sure you pay cross attention to Sullivan's Island to the North. On your second day, go over and ride the beach row roads from Isle of Palms down ending at Fortt Moultrie in Sullivans Island. Explore this fort but save enough energy to walk to the south east to the beach where you can enjoy the beach. Don't forget to look south and enjoy the view of Ft Sumter. I think exploring the two forts like this helps tie together things you read about at each fort.

On your way out of town, swing by Beidler Forest to enjoy some wild life and a leisure stroll into the swamp.

Then you have the other gardens, house tours downtown, an evening stroll along the battery, and other normal activies.

As far as resturaunts, can't help you there as we save our eating out money for the kid's horses. LOL

Rhonda,
At what CG are you staying?
James Island County CG is our favorite in Charleston.
As for restaurants, I haven't found one yet there that wasn't good.
Hyman's Seafood is a really good place, though.
Have fun!

We're staying about an hour away at Lake Moultrie where we have the RV set up right now.

Visit the Washington-Hayward house. Great historical house and my grandfather lived there as a child. I love Patriots Point. A trip over the Cooper River Bridge is always exciting for people who haven't been over a big bridge before. Angel Oak's a great place to go. Do some crabbing on James or Folly Island. James Island CP is a beautiful place to camp but don't fish there, we keep catching eels and thats about it.

Hominy Grill is AWESOME!

This is a small restaurant in an old historic home. I would beg my grandmom to take us there every time we visited Charleston.

If you enjoy good Southern cooking, you will love Hominy Grill.

Scout's honor. Locals love it.

Cindy and I are at JICP now, in site 28, and will be until just after the first of the year. We're working on displays and hosting for the Holiday Festival of Lights.

Stop by and say hello if you get here!
