Camp Hatteras. Never been to Ocean Waves but have never heard anything bad about it.

Just a freindly hint on Ocean Waves... If you decide to save some $$ and stay there, you will need reservations, they only have 68 FHU sites and they stay booked. They will NOT take reservations for next year prior to Jan 1st. If you wait til they open in March you will be too late, the only way to get good solid reservations is send in via snail mail Jan 1st, don't send them early and I wouldn't delay more than a week into January.

Nice little place, family run, friendly folks, cost less than HALF of what Camp Hatteras and KOA (both within 1/2 mile). A few sites even have some tree's for some valuable shade (can't find that at the other two places!!)

Ditto for all of the Camp grounds above. We stayed at Hatteras Sands in Hatteras Village this past August. Very nice family run Camp Ground. It is about 2 minutes from the Ferry to Ocracoke. It is farther down Rt12 but We think it is worth it. They had a FOR SALE sign out in front. The owners said they were going to retire and do some traveling. Hopefully the new owners will keep it a campground and not grow some more million dollor homes. The Outer Banks are a great place to get away. Good luck on your search. Pat

We stayed at Camp Hatteras last year and will NEVER go there again. The CG is over rated by far and I found the staff to be at best, lazy and dis-interested, and at worst, rude!! They lie about what facilities they have available and when you complain, they shrug their shoulders and walk away. Of course they charge extra for anything they do have. Probably the worst CG experience I have ever had. They even told me to "steal" the wifi signal from the KOA next door when theirs wasn't working.

I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.....

I dont know what happened with larry cad but in all the postings about Camp Hatteras I have never seen a bad one except for complaints about pricing. We have stayed there 2 times and going back in a few weeks and have found the people to be overly helpful and nice. It is a class place and you pay a little more for class. Just my 2 cents, not meant toward anyone in a bad way.

We stayed at the KOA there this summer. I thought it was nice and found the staff to be very helpful. It was a toss up for us between camp hatteras and the koa but we tried the koa and were happy enough to make plans to go back next summer.
