Should I completely drain the HW tank after each trip? Sounds like odors sometimes occur with sediment from water left standing in the HW tank, and if I should, do I leave the cap off so it dries thoroughly? And what about the Fresh Water? Do I leave the drain cap off of that for the same reason?

What do you do at home? Drain your water heater every time you go camping? My hot water tank stays full except when I winterize the trailer and when I get HOME the first thing I do is FILL my fresh water tank. Very few of them will ever drain completely and nothing like a damp dark place to grow nasty stuff. Filled with chlorinated water they will do very well for a month or so. Just drain and re-fill before going out again.

We're fulltimers, so maybe our "water maintenance" schedule is a bit different than some, but we drain and rinse the sediment from our hot water tank each year.

Our fresh water tank maintenance depends upon how much "on the road" time we have.

If we're "actively" moving from place to place, we don't drain or rinse the fresh water tank at all (as it is constantly being used).

If we're staying somewhere for 6 months or more and using the park's water (as we have been recently), we drain, rinse and refill it about every 3 months or so.

We've been fulltiming a little ocer 2 years now, and that's worked very well for us.

I don't.. I do drain it every winter though.. I may drain it Tuesday (I have one more trip planned but temps are getting kind of ... Dangerous.. The rest of the water system I can protect but the water heater is kind of exposed)
