We are considering a trip next summer that might include Baie-Comeau hwy #389 to Labrador hwy #500 to Goose Bay, and then ferry to Lewisporte. Question: Has anyone done this trip in in 2007 or 2008 and what are the road conditions like. Any websites I could check out? We could spend most of the summer on this trip (June, July, August) before returning to Ontario via N.S., N.B, and Quebec. Our rig is a 34 foot Winnebago pulling a small car on a car dolly. We also like fishing therefore one of the reasons for travelling the Quebec/Labrador road. We have a porta-bote with a 3 hp outboard motor. Thank you.

Relaxin: Yes we will be back at MacGregor Point this winter effective Nov. 11 plus we have two RV Workshops (MacGregor & Pinery)this fall. Do stop in - we will put the coffee pot on... If you drive by again this winter - shame on you for not stopping in!
Now, back to the original request... anyone made that trip through Quebec to Labrador and on to Newfoundland last year or this year as we like to dream and plan what we are going to do next summer...nice winter project...planning...etc.

Ok, for all that I did that trip in reverse in 2006, I just moved across The Gulf this summer and am still in the area where I expect I pick up more stuff from CBC than you do in Ontario.
The Trans Labrador Highway is scheduled to be on the go in 2009.
Some thoughts on good sources of information:
CBC Radio:
Labrador City
TEL: (709) 944-3616
FAX: (709) 944-5472
E-mail: Labrador City
The email is a frame off this page: http://www.cbc.ca/nl/contact/
Here's another: http://www.cbc.ca/nl/programs/
& http://www.cbc.ca/labradormorning/
Labrador West Official Website
http://www.happyvalley-goosebay.com/
& L'Anse Au Loup is in the centre of the section south of Red Bay
You might do very well to call each of these organizations for their take on things. I and others have found that talking to those who live there really opens up possibilities that you hadn't thought of. Take your time, as in be ready for the nice idea.
& the 2006 road conditions for TLH beside the old tote road.

If anything I would think the conditions have improved. But that being said, drive a bit below the speed limit and you should be prepared for the odd bit of roughness. As with any gravel road, don't try to treat as anything else. Those who have damages must be going too fast.
& I, I took the road less travelled by.

This sounds like the trip I want to do next year if I can convince DW.We haven't bought our 'b' yet, but will next spring and this trip will probably be our first big one after a few trial runs.I'm curious what is a porta-bote as we would like to get out on the water but I don't know if a boat is transportable with a 'b'.
Last year we went to Newfoundland's northern pensula and have to go back, and the trans-labrador highway, from what I can learn, sounds very inviting:Go slow, boondock here and there, fish, did I say go slow?,and enjoy.
One tip is to dress warm up there because when we were there last year a radio station guy said there is two types of weather in Labrador:Good ski-dooing weather and bad ski-dooing weather!

wherenow: If you check out this website you will see what a porta-bote is - it is a fold up boat 4" thick - 67 lbs and mounts on the side of our RV.
http://www.ontarioportableboats.com/home.html
If you click on the left side button you can read our review of the boat. We have two friends who have also purchased similar but different size boats and we are all very happy with them. Email me if you have questions...frankspence@hughes.net

thank you everyone for your input...we are concerned about the blackflies as we have been in a few locations with swarms of them before and it was not a pleasant experience even with bug suits. Any suggestions as to potential time of year other than the two weeks between the snow and blackflies...
