I have an Endeavor Diesel MH with air brakes. Went to leave this morning and the brakes seem to be locked up. I think they have rusted! I drove in the rain 3 weeks ago and then parked until today. Went to leave and the brakes won't release. I have had this happen befor but was able to break them loose with forward or backward movement of the coach. What do I do? Help! JDA

First, make sure you have air pressure to the brakes. If there's no pressure, then they won't ever release. Try your air line port, if no pressure there, then something went amiss.

Try pressing the brake pedal down hard a couple times. Is it all the brakes or jsut the emergency brake. It is usually the emergency brake as the spring get weak. If that does not free it check and see if you have air pressure too. That should be the first thing you need to look at. If not you can manually release them but you will not have brakes so I suggest you call a mobile road guy to come and look if you have verified that you have air pressure.

I seem to have air pressure and It is just the rear brakes. I have had this problem before when it is damp and very humid. They break free with forward movement. When I release the partking brake it seems like it is working, but it, the coach, won't move. JDA

Get out your hammer and smack the drums a few times, you will hear it when they release. I used to go through that every winter driving truck on the east coast.

It could be that the parking brake cable is sticky which prevents the parking brake shoes from completely releasing. Never park for extended periods with parking brake on.

You are probably correct, the brakes have rusted. Gun the heck out of it as you have done before. Don't just rock it, but put as much torque as you can to the wheels. When they break loose it will scare the heck out of you with a loud bang. You will probably see all kinds of rusty water around the brakes when you finally move the MH. Don't ask me how I know, it happen all the time here in FL. with the high humidity.

In addition to all of the above, try going in reverse first.

To the poster that said look at the parking brake cable.... Endeavor DPs don't have a parking brake cable, everything is done by air. The parking brake is the rear brakes, there is no "park" position for the transmission. The parking brakes have to be set.

No parking brake cable on air brakes. The parking brakes have to be set, there isn't a parking pawl in the trans.

Have someone watch the shaft out of the brake cans to see if they are trying to release. If you have enough room pull the slack adjuster off at the clevis, put a big pipe over it and jerk, see if they will move. Do you grease everything regularly to keep it free?

This has been an intermitant problem, but it has always released under coach power. Usually when I back up it gives out a loud bang and all is "ok". Not this time I have tried it all! Will get a repair man tomorrow. JDA
