Try running a motorized 120V clock (alarm clock or wall type) would be a rather simple test of frequency if it keeps time for an hr or so then the frequency is correct then your digital meter is not reading the waveform correctly.

In this case since the genny is an inverter (Ti is inverter I am assuming) type the digital frequency meter may be having a hard time with the waveform.

The best way would be to scope the output but a clock should tell you if it is in the ball park.

The frequency determing elements in the inverter can respond to changes in temp, however without looking at the circuit I'm not sure if higher temps would move it up or down.

Sounds like you need to have a professional check it out.

You might try buying a service manual from your local neighborhood Onan/Cummins dealer. Mine set me back $18.00, and I got that back on the first fix. I also found that the local tech is your tech supoort guy - they do not have factory tech support. In my humble opinion (as a former tech support guy) you DO get better help from a guy with dirt under his fingernails.

I support the group of posts that think there's something bogus about the frequency reading. The inverter generators have so many clocked functions that IMO if some malfunction caused the frequency to be off, the thing wouldn't be working at all. Testing with a motor-driven electric clock is an excellent suggestion.

Your frequency counter can read the clean sinewave in your home quite accurately, but be fooled by noise in the waveform of your generator. I would at least try another counter, and preferably hook up a 'scope through a proper attenuator to observe the waveform.

OP has a Kipor generator, why get an Onan manual for it? Is the Kipor a Chinese copy of an Onan?

Should have mentioned that this was with RV AC running.

..and you called your Kipor dealer/distributor? I'm not a user of inverters but using a Fluke meter on my NSM Pramac shows a solid 61 hz when under a 2kw resistive load. In any case a call to Kipor should answer your concerns.

Deen - got me there!!! Seems I never heard of a Kipor... Guess an Onan book would not do the poor guy a whole lot of good, would it?! I sure hope he can FIND a Kipor dealer!
